What’s the drug situation in the clubs you’ve worked at? Is it very prevalent? I’m not sure what laws are like in Canada–are club owners liable for drug use in the clubs?
i’ve worked in a couple places where coke use was fairly prevalent. most establishments, including where i currently work, do not tolerate the use of illegal substances. if you get caught using, you will be tossed & banned.
as far as ownership/management liability re: drugs… i’m sure there is something in the law. but to be honest, the violations most liquor board / police inspections are looking out for are alcohol in unlicensed areas, over-intoxication, and to some degree, overcrowding.
health code inspections (hand washing, glass washing, ice machines, smoking, etc.) are taken very seriously here, and having a health code violation is usually treated more harshly than liquor violations.
clubs do get shut down for liquor violations though. a few months ago, two big clubs here got shut down; one for 45 days & one for 60 days. the violations in these clubs were overcrowding, alcohol in unlicensed areas, and serving minors.
i have not heard of an establishment getting shut down for drug use, where staff/management were not directly involved (i.e distributing.)
Does the “tip big on the first round” really work in getting the customer better/faster service? My brother likes to say this a lot. I figure as the night progresses you would see so many people they would just sort of blend together.
Speaking as an end user of said services , the big tip at the beginning of the night is haphazard at best and usually only works with the waitresses and waiters , while the bar staff usually will serve people in no particular order. I have been served ahead of someone simply because i had a simple order and a five dollar bill out and didnt expect change.
I figure that if it works , its because of the person doing it , not the practice itself.

Last I heard ,which admittedly was four years ago there was a club on kipling and lakeshore blvd that tended to have a more older client set, and crocodile rock , if its still open had a more mature gathering on weekends.
But realistically , I am expecting that most older people have coupled up and are hanging out in sports bars and those pool halls for familys and only go out occasionally to a safe club every now and again.

“Crocodile rock”? Is that a term for 70s rock?
Posts #2 and 3 were awesome.
if you are a regular, known for tipping well, you will get preferred service. otherwise, most bartenders just serve from one end of the bar, down to other, and back. or if it’s a bit slow, as close to first come, first served as they can.
there are a couple places that attract older crowds, though not like it was even 4 - 5 years ago. some newer venues on king west have more upscale crowds, and these by nature are older than average for clubland.
crocodile rock is a song by elton john, and also a bar in toronto. actually, i’m not even sure if it’s still around. there are so many clubs now, and owners & names change often enough that i’ve lost track of a lot of them.
