Ask the single-sex high school girl!

Hi everyone! Yes, I did have fun camping. Besides going sledding 4 times (sometimes 5 people on a sled) we did do some typical girlie things, like sit around and talk about boys, have several tickle fights, and my friend and I went streaking around the cabin in the snow just wearing bathing suits in 10 degree weather Fun stuff!
I get to see my parents every day, since I live with them Only about a fifth of the girls are boarders, and I’m not one of them I literally live just around the corner, so I walk to school.
Yes, I feel I have much better opportunities at this school. In a coed environment, girls tend to act dumber and more shy, but in an all-girls school we take more responsibilities and learn at our full potential.
I don’t know much about the male and female “way” of learning except that girls do better in a single-sex environment generally and boys do better on standardized testing
I definitely think I get more encouragement to follow my dreams in difficult fields like science at a single sex school. Yup, I’m pretty lucky!
Oh, and Andrews is in Willoughby, OH, which is east of Cleveland. My brother went to US- the other major private schools are US for boys, GRA for druggie boys, Hathaway Brown for girls, Ignatous for boys, Gilmore for girls, and Hawken for both.
More questions?

Merla

Whoops- forgot a question there.
To Kitarak- sometimes people are VERY immature here. For example, with only a few exceptions, the juniors here DESPISE the senior. Not just because they are seniors, this is a long-standing hatred, and most of us have no clue about what we could have done to deserve this hatred. We are very competitive, there was a junior/senior touch football game (we lost :frowning: ) and instead of being gracious winners the junior just made fun of us for being clutzes. They are the cattiest girls in the school, and if fights ever do break out, it’s because of them.

Merla

Merla,

Who said manatees were boring? Live the wild life. Wild life in general, but especially certain among the marine species are terribly fascinating. I hope that you never lose the love for those strange yet still beautiful and peaceful giants. I pretty much stick with my fascination for the dolphin / porpoise family, though.

Lamia, what was that about the replies to the op turning this into some sort of leering fest?

Ok ok, I know I valiantly denied doing any of those things before, but the truth is most girls do stuff like that sometimes- I just don’t do it very often. And, we NEVER do it at school. At sleepovers and school retreats, maybe. But I’m still not a dirty girl and my school has nothing to do with my strange bathing suit streaking tendencies.

Merla

In the interests of fairness, since you are the O.P.'er, perhaps then you could tell us what the definition IS of a ‘dirty girl’ ? A lot of leering or flirtacious posts have arisen in this thread, but for every naughty post that shows it’s head, there are an equal number whose thrust is more mature.

For those of us attempting to keep matters well in hand, might you enlighten us? How do you define it, and we’re all glad that you are not one, ok? Just trying to get to the meat of the matter.

In my definition, a “dirty girl” is someone who, although she is about 16 or 17, still a minor, participates in promiscuious sexual acts with more than one partner with no protection, wears slutty clothes, flirts with married male teachers, gets drunk and loses her licence and nearly gets raped, flashes breasts at random people in the street and loudly tells stories of various sexual situations. There are a few girls in my class who have done all of these things. I don’t choose to associate with such girls.
There are plenty of immature and strange or even nearly sexual things that girls at myschool do. I haven’t mentioned them yet because first I wanted to establish that I wasn’t like this and make sure people didn’t think everyone at all-girls schools were. Next I’ll delve into the complicated politics of my school and issues that often arise, sometimes resulting in heated arguements and occasional fistfights.

Merla

Hrm. Looks to me like this thread has seen it’s heyday. I suppose I ought to just let it die in peace, but I like the attention. Sure there aren’t any more questions? I’ll answer trivial ones too since it’s not busy anymore…

Merla

In an attempt to revive the thread- if anyone is really interested in my school, the website is

And, there ARE plenty of pictures of me around- there’s a link on my website.

Merla

At the risk of sounding like a pervert, you are rather pleasant on the eyes, and if I were still in highschool…

Well… Come to think of it, I was an idiot in HS and I’d be dating a complete bitch, because that’s what I did in highschool . Grumble…Bad memories coming to light…

Why thankee dear- should have even more pictures as soon as I get my latest roll developed.

Merla

Trying to tease us so we’ll keep the thread going, eh?

(Besides, I already confirmed Merla is a cutie - on page 1 of the thread  )

And glad to know you’re not a “dirty girl” – despite the teasing everybody gave at the start of the thread when they saw “all girls school”.

Okay, here’s two more questions to keep you going:

  1. You said you were just at your school during the day – you didn’t live there as a boarder, or anything. How different do you think things would be for you if you WERE a “live-in” student at an all-girls’ school? A resident boarder. I tend to think that this is what most people had in mind when the thread started – but if you live at home with parents, it doesn’t seem that much different from regular school situations, except that you don’t have boys in the classroom with you.

  2. Which school in FL did you apply to?

Merla,

Would you date an older boy?

Well, just a LITTLE teasing. I like the attention here
Yes, I would date an older boy- but not too much older. Probably 24 or 25 would be my limit for age. I don’t know if that was actually a serious question or not but I answered anyway.
I’m applying to Eckerd college in St. Pete Florida. Great marine biology program there.
If you board at school it’s much more expensive, several thousand dollars more than if you don’t. About a fifth of the girls here board. We have girls from Korea, China, Germany, even Venezuela. I think I would be bored if I boarded, because there’s not much boarders get to do. Probably I WOULD do things like sit around in my underwear more often, which someone asked me, if I just lived with other girls instead of my parents. Things might be quite different for me.
I’m going away again this weekend, now to visit Earlam, Wittenberg and College of Wooster. Keep the thread alive for me!!

Merla

Merla, do girls at your school have any larger critical vocabulary than “sucks”?

Well, not most girls. Many of the girls here are flakes. I prefer to think that I have a better vocabulary than saying “like” and “sucks” all the time. I might slip into that in casual chatter, so let me know if I am. But again it’s hard to lump all the girls into one category of flakes or not flakes. Many people here are very smart but many people have the apparent IQ of a breakfast pastry.

Merla

Thus explaining why calling a gal at your school a Cream Puff, or commenting on her lovely Buns is to be discouraged at all costs.

(D&R)

Yup. Probably it would hit too close to home for most of them!
BTW, 2 new pics on my website. Click on the pics link.

Merla

Just read your posting above where you said where you were applying to college. I applied to Wittenberg (and got in), and planned to apply to Earlham as well but didn’t get around to it. I had a friend who went to Wooster. All of these three are great schools as far as I can tell.

Eh, I just found Wittenberg to not be to my liking. I prefer Eckerd in FL for my top choice
BTW, I hope it’s not too obvious that I’m trying to streeeeeeetttcchhhh a dying thread so it reaches at least 3 pages… I’ve sunk to teasing old men with pictures.
