Republicans led by Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah apparently intend to make many temporary provisions of the Patriot Act, which were only supported by moderates and civil libertarians in Congress because they were only intended to be temporary, now Republicans want them to be permanent.
AssHats.
So much for Republicans being against big government and for getting government out of citizens lives.
Neither party is really for “small” government. The only difference is that Republicans want to control our private lives, such as our children’s education and what we do with our bodies. Democrats want more control over the economy, how we spend our money and how much of it is “ours” to spend. But I have to laugh whenever one party says that they’re for “smaller” government than the other… it really is bullshit.
As to the Patriot Act, I’m not in the least surprised that Hatch is behind an effort to make it permanent. Somehow I don’t think such an effort will get very far, though, however much it tries to wrap itself in the American flag.
It’s worthwhile to fill out the Contact form on Mr. Hatch’s website. It won’t get read unless you’re from Ohio, but if you make it clear what issue and position you support quickly, the staffer reading it will make a tally mark of your opinion. It’s a lesser form of voting.
Ohio’s current legislators are only interested in your opinion if you want to carry a concealed weapon but not if you want the state to continue funding its libraries…
You know it’s pretty easy to confuse those states with four letters.
Holden is correct. I was responding to the “And people wonder why I have such an anti-Republican attitude.” comment. Personally, I’ve noticed a vast, gaping lack of turmoil both on the SDMB and in the secret evil Republican cabal meetings regarding rjung’s ennui and inner angst regarding us.
