I may have to give this game a shot. I thought the first Assassin’s Creed, which I played on PC, really sucked yak cock. I hated the dull brown-gray/shot through with excessive light-bloom aesthetic of the game, and the gameplay was super repetitive and the AI as dumb as a doorknob. I thought it especially stupid that you would get ambushed by five knights, and one of them would spar with you one-on-one while the other four knights just stood around watching while their companion gets slaughtered. I gave up on that game quickly.
This new one looks better. The aesthetic looks better, from the screenshots I’ve scene. I love the way Renaissance anything looks, and especially Italy. Though I’m sure I will catch many annoying anachronisms (the slop-ass lazy kind of anachronisms, not the kind that are deliberately part of the game) like the wrong kinds of clothes or something, it still looks more visually interesting than the first one. My dad gave me an HDTV and I now have the excuse to buy a PS3. Maybe I’ll like this. But if it sucks yak cock, I will be back to give it the bad review it deserves.
Just finished it last night. Amazing game, though a bit on the short side (although, it may have just felt short). I’m collecting feathers and glyphs now. ETA: Ubisoft did a great job in aging Ezio. Not only did he gradually appear older, but his personality went from one of youthful exuberance to one of experience and seriousness.
MAJOR spoiler:The ending was crazy, but Ezio getting up with full health right after being stabbed required more suspension of disbelief than I am capable of. It kinda ruined it for me. I also felt very creeped out by the woman staring at me.Argent Towers, the PC is probably the worst platform to play either Assassin’s Creed on. I also read a review that the XBox 360 version has sharper graphics and richer colors than the PS3, so I’d recommend going with that if you felt AC1 was dull and uninteresting with its graphics.
I wouldn’t choose to buy one system or the other just based on which one Assassin’s Creed looks best on. I’m much more interested in playing MGS4 and the new Ninja Gaiden, both of which are PS3-only. And I have a hell of a lot of old PS2 and even PS1 games that I still like.
Playstation 3 is the way to go. Be warned only one version 80GB will play old playstation 2 games. However ps1 will still work. Your best bet is to just buy the new PS3 slim.
That creeped me out too. I’m not entirely sure why - my cinematographic sense, to the extent you can have that with video games, seems to think it’s a factor of the considerable close-up (along with the unexpectedness, I guess). But well done to whoever designed that scene, since fourth-wall breaking can easily be laughable, let alone fakey, wink-wink nudge-nudge fourth wall tapping.
Without having read the spoilers, I have a major question not covered in the reviews above: Does “present-time” story pick up where the last one left off (the guy who is captured and forced to re-live all these memories)?? I may be in the minority, but I loved the build up of that story in the first game, only to find there we no conclustion at all. I would have forgiven all the first game’s shortcomings if only the story had come together in the end. As to the location/name of the ancestor storyline, I really don’t care if there is any continuation there or not.
Yes, the second one picks up right where the first one ends. A beautiful transition between games, if you ask me. You’ll learn a lot more about Desmond Miles.
The original PS3 was backwards compatible with both PS2 and PS1 games but at some point Sony determined that BC “wasn’t a big deal” and removed PS2 compatibility, though they left in compatibility for PS1 games.
The last revision that was in any way BC with PS2 games was discontinued in 2007 so it’s been gone for awhile now.
Right now the only commercially available PS3 systems are the 120GB model and the 250GB model. The only difference between the two is the size of the hard drive and frankly 120GB is far more than most gamers will probably ever need. Both are based on the “slim” redesign which has a smaller physical footprint than the original PS3.
Why would I need the big hard drive? There are lots of old 80 GB models on eBay that are backwards compatible with PS2; why should I not just buy one of those?
You don’t need need a huge hard drive, that was actually the point I was trying to make.
If BC is important to you and you determine that the seller is legit I say go for it.
I actually have an 80GB model myself and I haven’t used a fraction of the available space, maybe 10GB worth mostly on Rock Band and Guitar Hero songs. I download demos occasionally, but they never stay on there as I either buy/rent the game if I like the demo or it gets deleted. The only thing I can see needing a large drive for is if you intend on storing large amounts of videos or mp3s but that hasn’t been a concern for me personally.
So, I’m not usually a dick in games, but I tried something just for fun and it worked and was totally worth it.
Step 1: Find a guard, and will do but polearms work best.
Step 2: Poison said guard
Step 3: Right when he goes berserk throw coins onto the ground near his feat.
Step 4: Sit back and cackle maniacally while the peasants get slaughtered. Especially fun with Minstrels.
Are you saying it ends in another cliff-hanger??! If so, I plan not to bother with this game. Nothing infuriates me more than investing hours upon hours into a story only to have the game just…

Apparently, I just finished the game but I’m confused:
I chose to play it relatively thoroughly, doing all side quests methodically as I went. I ended Chapter 11 with everything completed that was available to me except I only have 68 feathers. Once Chapter 11 was completed, I went back to the exclamation point at the Villa and requested to go to Rome and it skipped me ahead to Chapter 14 and then end the game.
According to the DNA UI, for Primary memories Chapters 12 and 13 aren’t yet complete (empty diamond for incomplete vs full diamond for complete), and for secondary memories only my “Courier” section is complete. Yet upon being dumped back into the game after the credits, there are still no more Secondary memory icons on any map that I can find.
Does finding all of the feathers enable me to finish off those loose ends? What are the other hidden locations once you’ve found all of the tombs and gotten the armor?
I busted my ass to do everything I could and it looks like I ended locked out of gameplay, which is marring my considerable enjoyment of the game. Grrr.
The attention to detail is staggering. I especially liked the dialogue that you almost miss if you aren’t paying attention.
Fighting: “They’re offering 20f for your testicles.”
Knocking boxes out of hands: “You made me drop my mother’s something-or-other. Now she’s going to hit me with the cane!”
