Assassin's Creed

I’m a tad surprised that there isn’t a thread about this game yet. Was watching Always Sunny tonight and it was wholly sponsored by the game and each commercial break was an extended trailer for the game. I have to say that I am very intrigued. I’m not a gamer at all. I have a Xbox 360 gathering dust next to my TV, and I am certainly not a big RPG, MMO or FPS player which doesn’t seem to leave much else these days. This one looks a bit different, though.

If you haven’t seen much about the game yet, the Game Site will be of interest, and I think the Experience site is extremely cool. The IGN Hands-on game review gives a good look at what to expect.

What’s everyone thinking? Getting excited about it? Heard anything from insiders yet, good or bad? Knowing Dopers there’s probably a few who are privy and have already gotten their hands on a version of it.

Do you think this game is a worthwhile excuse to dust off the 360 and try to geek out for these cold winter months ahead?

I had no idea there was a game. I have a book by that name in my Amazon queue.

Assassin’s Creed

I have to believe the two are related.

I’ve been following it somewhat. I’m trying not to get too worked up over it right now since my wife has declared a ‘No Buy Zone’. I am only allowed to buy Rock Band between now and Christmas …because she wants to play drums. :stuck_out_tongue:

I love stealth\assassin characters in games so this one looks to be right up my alley.

I don’t really play video games, because I’m so crap at them. I have played a few, but generally get stuck at about level 4, and then get frustrated and give up.

However, I do love to watch other people play games, especially if they’re good at it, so I can watch the graphics and gameplay as it unfolds, and not feel too involved that the artistry passes me by.

I wish I had some way of watching people play Assassin’s Creed on an HD projector, because I think it would be mesmerising.

I’m reserving judgment until it’s actually out. There’s a lot of hype behind it that’s made me wary. Once they actually deliver then I might be more interested.

I will say that the extended commercials played during South Park just annoyed me rather than perked my interest. Poorly written CGI cut scenes do not sell a game to me and the handful of action shots that appeared to be genuine game play just didn’t look like anything special.

I’ve never played a video game, but I’d definitely watch someone else play this one. It looked gorgeous.

After my husband and I commented about the technological advances since Pong, we decided it was unrealistic for a real assassin to look like that. Assassins should blend in. That guy was obviously an assassin, and probably wouldn’t last long in the real world.

It was first time I’ve watched It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Funny show.

As you can see at the top of the bookcover, it was written to go with the game. The game is the source material.

This game was done by the same people who did the Prince of Persia series for the PS2. That game was amazing. The storyline, the graphics, the voice acting, the gameplay, everything was beautiful. Because of that, I have high hopes for this game.

I have high hopes for this game after the let down of Hellgate:London and Crysis.

Also did Splinter Cell, so I’m betting the gameplay and stealth aspects are going to be pretty slick.

I suppose had I looked at the game and then closely at the cover I would have seen that.

I put it in my queue because I have read the author before and enjoyed at least one of his works.

I’ve been quite interested in this game since the day it was announced and demo’d. However, they’re taking a bit of a risk here with the control scheme (which I respect) that will probably be sink or swim.

I thought it was done by those guys since there seemed to be a crapload of “jump from this rafter to that rafter” stuff in the commercial. I actually had to stop playing PoP because I got annoyed that my guy couldn’t just walk on the floor already.

It seems like a faster paced Thief: The Dark Project with an added “platform game” element.

I’m mildly fired up for this. This was supposed to be out a while ago, plunged into a world of secrecy, and now it’s finally here. I’ll wait for the initial reviews and see what’s up after that.

I hope its good. My wife got money from it already so if we buy it we still come out ahead. The company hired our friend’s company to make some cheesy Youtube viral promo trailer stuff, my wife made the costume.

I should be playing it within days now and have high hopes.
Every reviewer that has been hands-on with it this far has said it lives up to the hype and possibly surpasses it.

There are just too many good games coming out this fall/winter.
I have barely finished the Orange Box and am now playing Call of Duty 4 : Modern Combat.
After this one we still get Mass Effect.

The November issue of Game Informer has a hands on preview article on the game. They got to play it for 5 hours. Pretty good write up but they didn’t give it a full review since they didn’t get to play the full game.

Random side note: I just bought Ace Combat 6 for the 360 and it’s a pretty good time. An arcade style flight and combat simulator with some spectacular graphics and good surround sound.

I bet it’d be ultra badass with my surround sound headphones.
I’m still tethered to Halo 3 for the forseeable future. I may have to give Assassin’s Creed a pass, though.
