Who’s responsible for the pool maintainance? It sounds like they need an independant company to come in and run the pool separately from the HOA. Issue ID cards, check membership as people come in, make sure the pool is clean and maintained, beef up security during off-hours, chase off vandals, etc.
Oh, and the feces in the pool is just freaking disgusting. :shudder: Kids in diapers aren’t allowed in the main pool where I go, only the baby pool.
At my pool a couple of years ago, a dad was doing the “lift his kid up and throw him” thing in the pool, and his kid threw up in the pool, and it was closed for 2 or 3 days to get it cleaned and disinfected. IIRC, someone from the county Board of Health came out to inspect it and test the water.
runs after bizz with a giant flyswatter Biblio–I am not sure who maintains the pool but apparently it’s someone who lives in the neighborhood or who is connected with the HOA board members. The blurb in the April newsletter just says that a “Mr.Johnson” stated blah blah blah about last year’s pool maintenance.
I still haven’t heard back from the head of the HOA whom I emailed several days ago requesting a copy of last year’s budget report with details as to which areas were overbudget and by how much.
I’m going to email him again today and keep emailing him till I get what I’m asking for.
I drove by the pool on my way out to work yesterday and it seems(though I didn’t see them up close)that they have installed ‘pool rules’ signs which were not there previously.I can’t get into the pool to see what other improvements might have been made over the winter but I"ll try to get as close as I can (peeking through the fence and whatnot).
One other thing, now that I think of it,that bothered me last year was the ‘emergency’ phone being used for everything BUT that.On the wall next to the bathroom cabanas is a little white phone inside a brown box with a lid.The lid reads "For Emergency Use ONLY’.I know there is a way to make a phone set up where it’s only able to dial 9-1-1 but this phone was not set up that way.It was set up like a regular phone and was used for everything.I remember sitting there attempting to read one day while a teenage girl (probably 16-17ish)sat there and discussed the merits of so and so’s body over somebody else’s and other things I won’t put here.It was disgusting and at one point I got up and went over to her.I tapped her on the shoulder and said “excuse me,do you mind?” and she looked at me like “Oh not at all. Here” and handed me the phone after she’d hung up. I was tempted to rip the phone right out of the wall.It wasn’t the first time and I 'm sure it won’t be the last that SOMEBODY pays for these asshat conversations that could be taking place in the person’s home or on their own private cellphone(which EVERYBODY…even the little bitty elementary aged asshats seem to have these days).
That’s what I would have thought. Now that I’ve thought about it some more, I’m pretty sure it was closed the rest of the day it happened, all of the next day for cleaning, and a bit of the morning of the third day. That was when the Health Inspector came and tested the water. I think it had something to do with the water running through a full cycle (or something like that). Hey, as far as I’m concerned, better safe than sorry.
I guess it has to do with state regulations.
The rest of the pool was open; the baby pool, the lap pool and the playground.
That sounds about right,Biblio. At the very first apartment complex where CG and I lived they were constantly closing one of the pools for state health inspectors. The pool that kept getting closed was stuck in the middle of a bunch of apts where a lot of kids lived and therefore constantly had poop, pee, puke and god knows what else in it.
I don’t think the chlorine actually does anything in the antibiotic or disinfectant range.
It just keeps it clear. I mean, I’m not a pool-person, so I don’t know exactly how it works (and I’m too lazy to go look it up), but since it’s chlorine, I’m sure it kills something, but I don’t know what. I do see lifeguards checking the water a couple of times a day.
