When I read that I thought to myself “Extra prison food is a perk?” Seems like it would be punishment, but I don’t have any first hand experience, thank god.
I’m guessing this depends on if he sees a use for her, aside from the money. Plus, since no one knows where they are, he doesn’t want her body to turn up to give LEO any help.
The morning of the getaway, she drove the two of them in a “police” vehicle to her own car which she had parked before she went to work. My question is, how did she get to work if her car was parked miles (?) away from the prison?
A CNN article says, “Investigators found footage of White shopping for men’s clothes at a department store and at an ‘adult store,’ Singleton said, adding she ‘obviously had a change of clothes’ for the inmate.” So what was she buying at the adult store that would help in the disguise?
I think that the reported AR-15 and the shotgun were probably taken from her patrol car. A hand gun was also mentioned, probably her work gun. I don’t think they bought guns, the sheriffs car has guns.
Casey White goes back to jail and will probably die serving his sentence. He still faces trial for the murder for hire.
We’ll never know why Vicky threw everything away for this guy. She must have known the capabilities of law enforcement. There was little chance they could evade LE for long.
There was an earlier version of the story (I think on the NPR website, since updated) that said they were in a Ford F-150 pickup during the pursuit with Casey White driving, and apparently lost control and crashed. This has since been corrected. They were located due to a surveillance video at a carwash in Indiana that showed someone who looked like Casey White with the F-150. The truck, which had been stolen, was later abandoned. They tried to escape in a different vehicle, a Cadillac sedan, with Vicki White driving. The pursuit ended when one of the police vehicles rammed the Cadillac. It was at that point that Vicki White apparently shot herself. Rescue was delayed by the fact that she was pinned in the car due it having been rammed on the driver’s side.
