Asterix comics in the US?

Because of this place, I heard about Asterix.

So, when I happened upon some of the comix at a indy bookstore, I bought as much as I could with the cash on hand ($40) and gave to our son as a bday present a few years back.

He LOVES them.

I wish I had maxed the credit card out and bought one of each copy available, as they are hard to find.

This was my thought too. The translation to English by Anthea Bell and Derek Hockridge is a work of art in itself.

I grew up in South Africa and Asterix and Tin-tin were a prominent feature of my childhood. Here in the United States they are not widely known. Thankfully in this online age that does not mean they are difficult to find. Armed with Amazon gift cards and pangs of nostalgia I recently bought pretty much the entire Asterix collection.

I have every one of the Asterix large-format hardback comic books. Starting several years ago, I only bought each newly-published one in French, as I can read a little of it and I prefer to read them that way.

I got started on them in the early 80’s, as an adult, and was instantly hooked. I’d even like to visit “Parc Asterix” in France! I wonder if they serve roast wild boar at the food stands?
