If an asteroid were to hit earth, where would it land to be of least destruction to humankind?
It all depends upon the size. If it were a reeeaaally big one, it wouldn’t matter where it hit, we’d all be goners. Otherwise, the best place for it to hit would be some remote place with few people (oceans would probably be bad, since it could cause large tsunamis), like remote parts of Alaska, Canada, Australia, Siberia, or the poles.
That scientific TV program “West Wing” off-handedly noted that Antartica would be the safest place.
