Do drug users even “trip” anymore? I rarely take drugs. In fact apart from alcohol ive never felt completely “out of control” on any drugs until today. This experience today was not nice. At first a numbness; then a fear that I had taken something beyond my limitations and that I may not live to tell the tale(I had a fear I’d commit suicide somehow). Then some Matrix type bullshit. I was being controlled by a superior intelligence. This SI enjoyed nothing more than bringing pain to my mind(not body). The universe was made up entirely of pain. All this universe of pain was being sucked into my brain at warp speed. This was to be my existence for forever more.
Next I remember is waking up sprawled on the floor. As I woke I feared I had had a stroke. I had no noticeable signs of a stroke but woke up thinking “is this what a stroke feels like”. Then physical sickness, finally relief that I had made it through.
I must admit my ignorance and embarrassment here. It was offered by a friend of a friend in joint form. I assumed it was simple marijuana, obviously it was not. If it was marijuana then its the strongest stuff by far I have taken. I even suspect some sort of deliberate spiking(like a drink) of the joint.
Sounds like it could have been synthetic pot (“herbal incense”), which up until a year or so ago was available at head shops around here… some of that stuff is very trippy and extremely powerful (e.g., even one small-to-medium hit can knock you on your ass; unwittingly taking several good-sized hits could be really disabling).
I also wonder if it might have contained some salvia (although I personally have never felt any temptation to mess with salvia).
This is an excellent case of why you don’t take illegal drugs. Even if your source is reliable, THEIR source may not be, or their source’s source, and so on.
I try not to even take newish LEGAL drugs. I want anything going in my body to be proven over many decades, minimum. Side effects can be pretty awful, and can take years to show up, and years to get rid of. In fact, given the studies showing multi-generational effects of smoking, I’d say it’s best to avoid all drugs unless absolutely necessary (unless you’re done having kids).
I havent taken any hallucogens before. If this is what I had it was a whole new experience. My friend says it was only hash. Though calling this guy a “friend” is probably exaggerating my relationhip with him. A lesson learned methinks. The strangest thing I found was how quick it all was. I was 3/4 into this joint before feeling anything wrong, and at that point it was too late to stop any reaction I had coming.
I had also thought this a possibility too. I have read scare stories of stronger types of marijuana going around. It really is an experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
I’ve no idea what was in your joint, but don’t feel too bad. Many have had the experience of getting in over their head because nothing seemed to be happening at first. Most often, ime, with cookies “This isn’t working, might as well eat the second one” etc.
Tripping off a laced joint sounds more like PCP aka: super joint. You don’t really trip on most drugs unless it’s just how you use that word to describe being fcked up but tripping is psychedelics and powerful hallucinogens.
15x Salvia or something doesn’t last that long. I always thought Salvia was lame anyway like all those other alternatives to the real shit we had back in the day, Salvia is millennial generation stuff and. they’ll will never know what it’s like to take a couple of gorilla biscuits and be wasted for 3 days straight. LSD and shrooms is where it’s at for tripping.
However at your age, mine included (38yrs) drug experience isn’t quite the same as it once was. You reach an age where certain drugs you just stay from, like coke, at our age a heart attack is a much closer reality for snorting some lines than it once was in our 20’s. It got real for me a couple years back taking some speed. As a kid I could take a couple and felt like my hair was moving and now it feels like I’m about to die with all kinds of other weird negative sensations I never felt before which increased my anxiety making it worse. Drinking too much coffee makes me break out in cold sweats now. lol
No not me…I’m done with all that stuff.
btw, your friend needs shot, adding boosters can be dangerous if they’re not expecting it.
For a couple of significant, non-health-related issues, I abstained from doing drugs other than those prescribed for the past 30 years. For the sake of information, I haven’t had any alcohol products for at least 15 years. Now I’m on prescribed anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds. The purpose of my post here is not to find someone advocating illegal drug use, but to see if anyone might know of any interactions between the meds I’m taking and, say, marijuana? Anecdotal experiences welcome. Thanks!
Might help if I list the exact meds I’m taking: WellButrin, Buspirone, Clonazepam.

I have known a couple of people who got a really strange and unwelcome high from products other people found perfectly fine, so in addition to all these things others have suggested (synthetics, salvia), it could just be that whatever was in there was not your thing, or that night was not your night.
For instance one friend of mine had a reaction to marijuana that, when she described it, sounded like tripping and frankly, did not sound all that bad to me (she went by an electronics store at some point and all the TVs on display were showing scenes from her childhood–different scenes on each TV, and I guess including some traumatic moments) but the rest of us were just normally baked and realized she was in some kind of trouble. As far as I know, she never tried any of that kind of stuff again, and in fact was afraid to take Percocet after her knee surgery.
Three quarters of a joint? That could potentially be the issue right there, m’dear. No additives needed. Today’s pot doesn’t need three quarters of a joint to get you high, unless they’re pins (rolled very very thinly).
But it does sound a whole lot like synthetic weed. I got lost in my brain on that stuff once. It’s terrifying.
I’m pretty sure I had that happen once – at least a couple of far more experienced friends thought it was PCP. It was really strange, things were seriously disconnected, and my vision was like someone was running a film strip very quickly across a light.
It wasn’t the best experience, but I figured it would end eventually.
Yep. PCP laced joint. The OP’s experience has happened to me twice, in 80’s LA.
I didnt know it was still used, either, if that’s what this was. (But then, GrumpyBunny, sounds like you and I might attend the same BINGO.)
The symptoms described feel uncannily similar to my inner experiences. I wasn’t even sure where my body parts were, or whether I was drinking something or not… Crazy, man.
