At this moment what does your computer's clock display?

11:44 pm

16h39 (4h39pm)

After deleting the posts where the hours differ by one or less (EDT and MDT) here are the posts with more than one hour’s difference. There are a few multiple posts here, but I’d suggest we have a wide range in time zones.

The differences in minutes seem to be within reason (if you count five minutes or less as reasonable).

It might be fun someday to do one of those “let’s synchronize our watches” things like they do in war movies when they’re going to do a coordinated attack on something. IMHO, we’d be up the proverbial creek!

Don’t forget that not all time zones share the same minutes. For example, India is 5-1/2 hours ahead of GMT, Nepal 5 hours and 45 minutes. (They say Nepal sets its clocks 15 minutes ahead of India to emphasize their independence.)

Good info! I just scanned the list in Post # 83 and didn’t find an example of this. Do we know somebody in that situation? Maybe a PM to him or her (or them) could coax them to post here if for no other reason than to become world famous!

I’ve seen threads where the objective was to get non-USA Dopers to post and say so. Maybe I can find links to those threads and post the links here, just for added sauce. Please, somebody, beat me to that exercise if you know right off where such threads are.

Here’s one of those threads:

Non-USA Dopers: Stand and be counted. Please.

Here’s a neat International Time Zones map:

And a site with clocks:
http://aglobalworld.com/international-time-zones/world-time-zones.php

And a chart:

A Wikipedia breakdown:

Each source shows areas of the world where the half-hour zones are located.

This list isn’t complete yet, but it’s a start for such a thing:

Venezuela
Iran
India
Nepal
Central Australia
Afghanistan
Myanmar
French Polynesia
Cocos (Keeling) Islands

Another thread dealing with similar issues is Time Zones: why is Mumbai off by half an hour? started 08-30-2010, 09:51 AM.

There’s now a link there to this thread, so bouncing back and forth ought to be a snap.
