So, what does the ATF do regarding Tobacco? Wikipedia does not seem to have much information, nor does their own site.
They have added “Explosives” to their name.
Does this just mean they all smoke and drink alcohol while looking for illegal firearms and explosives? Seriously, just what doe they do regarding alcohol and tobacco, if anything?
Their activities regarding alcohol and tobacco lean mainly toward loss prevention - as in prevention of the loss of tax revenue. They seek out and shut down criminal enterprises that sell booze and smokes illegally without giving Uncle Sam a cut of the profits.
Which was also their purpose regarding firearms. It was all about tax revenue. The one thing that Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms had in common was that they all have an excise tax. Many (all?) explosives have an FET as well, but I don’t think that is their major concern when adding it to their official title.
