Athlon X2 and Windows OS question.

I am building a fairly high end computer and want to use the Windows media edition OS. I already have Windows XP Pro and know that the media edition is a step down in some areas of functionality and performance. I want the media edition for its elegant multimedia interface. I know there are some other options like beyond tv 3 which I may consider.

I am getting the Athlon 64 X2 4200+ which is a dual core processor. I have seen very impressive tests for this processor, but always run under xp pro.
I know that xp home does not support two seperate processors. But does windows xp media (latest version) support a dual core processor? I have done dozen of searches to try to figue this out. So I turn to you, the awesome straight dope crowd, does anyone have a definitive cite as to the answer?

If it matters the system is:

Athlon 64 X2 4200+ processor
Asus A8N-E motherboard
1 gig Kingston ram pc3200
Maxtor 300 gig hard drive
Benq lightscribe dual dvd burner
Sapphire Radeon X800 GT 256 mb pci-E
Sapphire Theatrix 550 pro tv tuner

You gotta’ spend s’more time on that Google fu…=)

Thanks, alterego, I bow to your superior googling ability
