Thinking of getting a Radeon All in Wonder. Got any comments, rants, raves on them? I haven’t decided on model yet, looking for suggestions.
Absolutely get one. I got mine several years ago and to this day, it remains the coolest, best computer purchase I’ve ever made. I’m thoroughly addicted to it.
My roomie has one. He says it beats sliced bread.
I’ve been real happy with the radeon chipset. I’m running the 7500 right now and it works like a charm (although it is a little old and could be updated)
I’ve used the AIW’s before and they are cool cards if you need the extra “all in” stuff.
I have an AIW 7500, as well, and have been very happy with it. I’ve been thinking about building a dedicated Home Theatre PC and a new AIW will provide TIVO-like functions.
My only complaint is a minor bug in the drivers leave trail-like artifacts on the screen when I run AutoCAD. I imagine this would only affect a tiny portion of computer users, though.
I just like being able to record TV shows right on my computer
I got the AIW 8500DV It’s great having the extra “all in” stuff, since it means I can watch about anything now on my computer. I now have two firewire inputs because of it, while I had none before; plus it came with a really nice RF remote! Haven’t used AutoCAD on this machine, so I can’t speak for that experience, but it’s a great card. I got a bunch of rebates when I bought it too, so make sure to check ads and stuff for rebate opportunities (you know, like a 120gb hard drive for $60), cause it’s definitly worth it to save $100 for $1.11 in stamps.
I personally would recommend against getting an All-In-Wonder cards.
They work well, mind, but if it breaks (and it happens quite commonly with computer components), you will be out of your graphics card AND your digital capture stuff.
If you can, I’d recommend getting a separate graphics card and digital capture card. But hey, I may have just had bad luck with stuff I’ve worked with.
What model radeon? Aren’t there more than one? I have a few ATI ali in wonder models & their drivers suck. I can only hope they make better ones.
In the future it would be nice to know the computer type & operating system & computer specs HeartOfGold. also look at epionions.com
I have the All In Wonder 8500DV 64meg version. So far, very happy but the price was pretty steep at the time I bought it. Love being able to plug any of my S-video devices into it. Watching TV while also reading my email etc. through the blended image is SO cool. Also includes Gemstar program guide for free which allows the TIVO like function to automatically start recording a program based on any preset keywords it happens to find. For example any programs which contain the word sailing or motocross in the program description will automatically end up on my hard drive for later viewing ie. if [this] keyword found, perform [this] action for [this] many minutes.
The only downside I can offer is that updating the driver was a HUGE pain in the ass. More features than I know what to do with… Definitely did not need this much card but I am such a sucker for the cool tech stuff.
