Atkins question: How much meat is too much?

I’m on a modified Atkins diet. Basically, I eat a high carb lunch to get me through the day, a medium to low carb snack before the gym at about 5 and then no carbs at all for the rest of the day. Consequently, I’m eating a lot more meat than I ever have before. I’m going though 2 pounds each of roast beef and turkey a week. I’m also eating a lot more dairy and fish. This has been going on for about 4 months and so far I feel pretty good, and I’m making nice progress in lowering my body fat and increasing muscle.

I haven’t cut out fruits and vegetables so I’m not concerned about vitamin deficiencies, but I just have to wonder is there any downside to eating all this meat?

By and large, if you feel good, you’re probably OK.

I take it you’re a believer in the philosophy of, “if it feels good, do it.”

Well, not really…

The main concern with a lot of meat is a lot of saturated fat, but from what you’ve described, it doesn’t sound like that’s an issue for you.

And if you have a kidney condition, a high-protein diet can make it worse. From the little you’ve described, it doesn’t sound like you’re going nuts over protein. If you’re concerned, you can have a doctor do some basic bloodwork on you.

I’m just playing it light ultra, but thanks for your unceasingly sound advice.
