Attack Of The Danish Missile Kings. Newslink

So.

They got their own private rocket.

And…they got their own private submarine.

The 1920s Style Death Ray & World Domination cannot be far behind!

\

Apologies if this meme is tired, but: band name!

What?!?

The best the SDMB can do is…band name?!

We’re slipping.

In other news, the Prime Minister of Canada has been unusually conciliatory this past week regarding Arctic land claims.

Hmm.

Please note that this is another step while working to the goal of a manned space flight somewhere in or after 2013. This is a non-profit operation maintained on sponsorship, donations and lots of hard working volunteers. No need to set your expectations low, apparently. These guys are an inspiration to mad geniuses everywhere.

In the Merciful Name of Og.

These guys are serious. Completely, dead-on serious. They’re actually going to send a guy into space in a home-made rocket. I was going to say amateur-made, but then I remembered that these guys made their own fully functional damn submarine. There’s a very damn real chance that these guys will succeed.
I estimate we will all know when liftoff is, as the earth will rebound from the departure of the weight of this guy’s massive, titanium testicles.

I bow my head in awe.

If they succeed they will be Great Danes!

Hamlet in spaaaaaace…!

I’ve been following these guys for awhile, and they do appear to be just the right kind of crazy to make it work. Or die trying.

They made three(!) - just kept at it until they arrived at a design and size they were happy with. Very much like their rocket design philosophy, they started at a smaller scale and incrementally engineered their way up to a full-scale version.

You know something has gone right in your life when you get a polite letter from the Copenhagen Port Authority explaining that there’s a fleet visit happening and could you not parade neither sub nor rockets, in case guests from other navies get nervous, thanks so very much.

I think it would be kinda funny if the russians shot them down with an ABM.

Declan

It’s not that difficult. A big rocket makes them go up, gravity brings them back down. They just need to make sure it doesn’t happen all at once.

I knew about the rocket this people were building, but I had no idea of the submarine.

Sweet fanciful Og, the only way that could be any more awesome is if the sub was crewed by robotic ninja pirate flying monkeys.

I love the comment down the page about forgetting to untie the rocket and ending up with the first submarine in orbit.

You don’t say.

If this is successful, I suggest you guys start fireproofing your homes and hiding your maidens. Me? I have two Danes at home, I hope they’ll be merciful with their fellow Vikings.

I, for one, welcome our new Viking overlords.

…our new hot busty plump blonde Danish overlord …esses.

(Why yes, I had the hots for one at university…)

Update: The launch date is set for tomorrow.
There are pictures of the transport including the submarine starting on page 22 in the somethingawful thread.

Most people obey the laws of physics. These magnificant bastards obey the Danelaws.

“TychoBrahe” rocket, eh? It’d better have a silver-colored nose cone!

Launch date has been moved to Sunday (70%). Up-to-date info can be found at the copenhagen suborbitals site: Copenhagen Suborbitals

  • stuck LOX valve. Darnit! I’d hoped for them that they at least would get a cool explosion for their troubles…
