Attack of the Video Game Monsters

Admittedly, DOOM was badly inconsistent on just how powerful it’s weapons were. I was going by the fact that it took, IIRC, 25 rocket rounds to kill a Cyberdemon- the same rocket rounds that could pulp a human opponent. If you go by the fact that 400 small-arms rounds could also kill a Cyberdemon, then yes it isn’t nearly so tough.

I checked out my old DOOM manuals and they give the Cyberdemon’s stats (relative to the Space Marine): twice as tall, twice as broad, ten times as massive (so presumably about twice as thick also), and 40x the health points. So a Cyberdemon requires 40x as much damage to kill as an unprotected human. Hmm. So 25/40ths of a rocket round would kill a human- sounds about right, as you could sometimes survive a rocket hit if your armor and heath stats were high enough. Or 10 randomly placed bullet rounds to immediately kill you, which also sounds about right. I guess I was thinking of the rockets as having the power of anti-tank rounds- they looked that big in the game- but maybe they were closer to a grenade launcher.

“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to repel telespawned horrors from beyond<>”

The hordes of Robots from Berzerk. Not to mention Evil Otto.

Vast armies of wimpy robots are far more dangerous.

Why not? Those Red Dawn kids fought off the entire Soviet army.

Pretty much any end-boss from a Square/Square-Enix game (or pre-merger Enix from about the middle of the Dragon Quest series forward) would be…difficult to deal with…counting Sin as the end-boss in FFX, not Yu Yevon (Auto Auto Life? Seriously? What’s the point of making it a real battle?), and possibly the final boss on XII (I was MASSIVELY over-levelled before I went after him, so the 30 second battle was probably a-typical and definitely didn’t give him a chance to show off)…fuckers throw planets around! (Or something equally insane.) Multiple times in a battle!

The OPTIONAL bosses would be worse - going after the last Hunt in XII is why I was so over-levelled against the end-boss, and I STILL gave up on it after 6 or 7 hours.

I think the attack should be a little bit more gradual… The FF universe should send in some Tonberry shock troops first. The local law enforcement would be standing around, laughing at the little Yoda-like creature, when suddenly…DOINK!

I nominate the ultimate nemesis from Mass Effect. (Huge spoiler! Do not read if you care about playing this game!)

Seriously, don’t read this unless you’re sure. Last chance! Still reading? OK, so eventually you find out that Saren’s dreadnought, known as Sovereign, is actually a Reaper - a highly advanced and ancient artificial life form. Saren is merely Sovereign’s puppet. The Reapers, for unknown reasons, have allowed organic civilizations to evolve and build space empires, before coming out of hiding and utterly annihilating them. This has been going on for billions of years. One Reaper is as powerful as hundreds of warships built by organics. During the last battle, Sovereign mows down ship after ship like you would mow a lawn.
