Red Buick Encore attempted to follow another vehicle through the security checkpoint but was stopped by the barrier. The driver, and only occupant, taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for a mental evaluation. No word to motive as yet.
Saw a you tube video once where they were testing these barriers against various vehicles. Impressive stopping power. I wonder how it was triggered so quickly if the car involved was close behind an authorized one.
I was thinking that Grady is an odd choice to take someone when the incident happened in Chamblee, but then I thought about Grady’s proximity to the federal court and various jails and it makes sense, particularly if the person wasn’t injured to the point of needing fast care (but not trauma level care - because trauma you absolutely want to go to Grady).
I work close to Grady - like a 5 minute walk - and this is the first I’ve heard about this incident. Going to look I see it on r/Atlanta but I don’t think I paid attention to that subreddit yesterday.
