Attention Bamadopers: Question.

We still on for the 10th? I just got back from KY and wanted to make sure so I’m not standing around U-Mall all day.

Hope we are.

Yeah, that would be embarassing. Although I understand there’s a wide range of cuisine available in the food court. Tell you what, show up on the 11th instead. See also this page.

You might very well be by yourself on that day, Simetra! I think we agreed to the 11th.

Thanks for the link,dqa.

And yes…it’s still on! And I’m still THERE as THERE can be.

Hehe… I’m a dumb-ass. :stuck_out_tongue: I even said it in the thread.

Really sucks Ogre can’t be there.

We’re still planning on being there, although we hope to be coming over on the 10th and staying the weekend. I want to lounge by the pool and watch our daughter in the “really big bathtub”.

BTW, how was KY? I miss my home state something fierce…

Thanks to the ever-wonderful Ogre, I have compiled a list of good, fairly reasonably-priced places to eat. You guys better pick one soon, so I can make reservations. (And um, I need to get a count, don’t I?)

So here they are: (with Ogre’s notes, not mine!)

  1. Cypress Inn - On the Northport side of the Black
Warrior River, right on the bank. Can be expensive if
your tastes and budget run in that direction, but you
can also get a reasonably priced meal there. All the
    food is gooooood.

  2. DePalma’s - Call ahead for reservations for twenty.
It’s kind of a moderately priced Italian eatery, and
the food absolutely kicks butt. They make EVERYTHING
by hand, and their prices are quite reasonable. This
is my top suggestion. I loves me some DePalma’s.

  3. Pepito’s - Again, call ahead for reservations for
our bunch-it’s kind of a smallish place. They should
be able to hndle it. They have standard Mexican-food
pricing, but it’s some of the best, cheesiest,
tastiest Mex food I’ve ever had.

  4. Mellow Mushroom - Pizza joint. Good pies,
reasonably priced. This may be a bit run-of-the-mill
for us, though, since there are Mellow Mushrooms all
    over the South now.

  5. Phil’s - Largish place on the Strip. I hate the
food here, but it’s cheap. Phil’s is a big frat and
    soror hang out.

  6. Wings - On 82 just outside of campus. Sports bar
kind of food. Decent, and reasonable. Nothing
    special, though.

  7. Johnny Ray’s - On 82 in Northport. Standard BBQ
place, with standard pricing. Not too bad, but don’t
expect to find any veggie meals.

My vote is Cypress Inn. I’ve been there enough to know that it’s super.

So vote, dammit.

I’m still tentative, though it’s looking better at the moment. I don’t see that I’m scheduled to be out of town the week after that(thank God), which gives me my weekend free.

Nocturne, you’re killing me by mentioning Wings. The wife and I used to go to Wings, get a few wings, drink some beer, and play NTN back when we lived in B’ham. It was great. Although, you had to partake of the wings in moderation to avoid excessive rotundity.

We’re in Dallas now, but every once in a while, I still get a bad hankering. If you go to Wings, have a few for me.

[sub]Hey, is this 700? If so, woo-hoo![/sub]

Ok. My vote goes for DePalma’s. But I will be happy to change that to Pepito’s should there be a tie!

I don’t know if our vote counts for two or one, but we’ve discussed this, and we have decided what our vote will be.

DePalma’s.

We went to DePalma’s in Athens, GA after my husband’s cousin got married. The calzones… oh, my God, the calzones… they are out of this world.

Website is http://www.depalmascafe.com.

I am VERY cool with DePalma’s if everyone ELSE is okay with that. I just have to :

  1. Figure out where the hell it is and how to get there from U Mall.

  2. Call ahead for reservations from anywhere from 16-20.

For those of you who are tentative or are bringing along people that are tentative, when are you going to know for sure?

DePalma’s is on University Boulevard downtown. Coming from campus, it’ll be on the right. It’s on the adjacent corner to Mellow Mushroom.

Thanks…I now know exactly where it is.

It looks like DePalma’s might be it.

Okay, look–to make things easier on me, everyone who’s coming email me and tell me who is coming WITH you, that way I can get a somewhat accurate count.

Excellent… and I’m up for anything Nocturne. I’ll e-mail when I get home today.

Juliana, KY was great. Spent a lot of time at home on the farm. I don’t know where in KY you’re from, but we live close to Lexington, so Serendipity and I went down to Triangle park, and drove around downtown for a while. It really is a beautiful place.

The 11th should be so smashing! ((Yeah I got it now. ))

I’m originally from Danville, but spent about 9 years living in Lexington, very close to Rupp Arena. It is so beautiful down there, especially at night.

I have been getting homesick recently. I really need to order a Derby pie and a case of Ale-8-One. :frowning:

And our email has been sent.

Awww… I wish you’d have told me before I went to KY. I didn’t think about it then, but I could have brought a case with me to the Bamadope.

Heck, my grandmother even sells it in her little country store. Oh well… maybe next time.

Hey. I just wanted to introduce myself as a “Bamadoper”. I didn’t realize there were many of us. Well, hi.

Welcome, Achernar, to our illustrious (and apparently growing…who’dve thunk?) ranks! From where are you posting, and most importantly, will you be able to make it to the DopeFest?

Sweet Jesus smokin’ a Cuban while drinkin’ a mint julep, Achernar, you registered nearly a year before I did? Where the hell have you been, son?
