Attention Doper Gun Collectors!

Hello, all.

My grandfather passed away last March. Most (nearly all) of the money my grandmother needs to live is tied up in his collections, of guns and machinist tools and photos and catalogs and… etc.

He was the director of the Great Lakes Gun Collectors Association in the 70’s, but got out of gun collecting long ago in favor of other hobbies.

Now, Grandpa didn’t collect no crap, he usually went high class all the way. What I don’t know is if he sold off all the good stuff long ago, and the rifles that are left (about 20) may or may not be somewhat valuable.

I took pictures of the first 5 or 6 rifles that I could pick up, and I am very sure that they are the junkier ones because they were laying up against the wall instead of being mounted on the wall like the nicer ones. One of the more interesting items that I took a picture of appears to be a Japanese machine gun from WWII.

I took pictures of the markings on each gun. The serial numbers match on the stocks, bolts, etc. on the rifles I picked up.

I’d love to learn more about these rifles, especially the Jap. gun. Can anyone help me identify them, and possibly price them, or refer me to someone who could? They pretty much have to be sold, they are now part of my grandmothers livelihood.

P.S

I took care to ensure these guns were unloaded, and observed proper safety procedures taking the photos.

That appears to be a Type 99 Light Machine Gun.

Tread carefully. Automatic firearms are strictly regulated. I hope your grandfather had it properly registered! If a Class III holder dies, I believe it’s possible to pass the firearm to an heir – if the heir is eligible and passes the background investigation. But I do not know the process. Obviously you cannot just sell it.

I should add:

I have no idea where to start, so I thought the Dope was as good a place as any.

#1 is a French MAS 36. Prices seem to be around $300-$400. The one in the link is in very good condition an has a Buy It Now price of $400.

#2… Maybe a WWII Franchi? I don’t know.
