Attention Drum Corps Geeks!

Big, Loud and Live 6 (DCI Quarterfinals) is coming up this Thursday (August 6th) at a theater near you (well maybe - 400 theaters nationwide in the USA).

So who’s going to be there this year?

Any predictions for who this years champion will be?

I’m leaving for Indianapolis this morning, so I’ll be there in person. My brother’s in the Blue Devils (in the pit), so I hope they win. Last year he was in Phantom Regiment - apparently switching to BD led some people to believe he was a spy and/or saboteur.

I’ve noticed over the years that there really aren’t very many Drum Corps fans on the SDMB. I just stumbled on this topic while actively avoiding work.

I’m heading to Indy early Friday morning to catch semi-finals and finals. Unless there is an unusual upset, Blue Devils should take the championship this year.

ErinPuff, I’m jealous of your brother. Not just one championship ring, but likely two. Me? No ring.

I wish. But it is Thursday for me. So that means work until 6:30 Pacific, 10:30 Eastern.

Um, unless I’m mistaken, 6:30 Pacific is only 9:30 Atlantic.
Not that it will help you out much to watch. :frowning:

I would like to watch. I was hoping to go to Indy in person, but it turns out that my new house didn’t become my new house until yesterday, so Saturday is moving day.

Go Crown!!!

Wish I could go! I was a band-geek in HS and always wanted to be in Suncoast Sound (yeah, I’m old).

They used to show drum corps on television when I was n college and I loved to watch it but I havn’t seen it in years.

I’ve caught it occassionally on PBS I think?

Indeed. I haven’t seen Crown yet this year, but I’m pulling for them to crack the top three. Anything could happen. There is only a point separating second from fifth place. The battle between Crown, Cadets, Cavaliers, and Santa Clara will be exciting to watch.

shellofmyformerself – you may feel old but you’re not as old as me. I aged out of the Madison Scouts before Suncoast Sound was even founded.

Wow, the acoustics in there are bad. And the stadium designers seem to have pointed the worst of it at the expensive seats, which is just great. I spent part of the show sitting lower down, and it sounded better, but we couldn’t hear the announcer at all. How did it sound in the theaters?

This is where the championships are going to be for the next million years or so, so it’s a real shame that the sound sucks. On the plus side, the seats are comfortable.

Crown in second during the quarters. Blue Devils appear unstoppable this year; guess they got stung by the result last year.

Sad to hear that the acoustics suck. For my money, they should play in the open air; I loved the Rose Bowl in 2006.
