I’m looking at the back page of the “Family” section of the Sunday, April 9 Chicago Tribune. It’s a full-page ad for Spring Hill Mall, Routes 31 & 72, out in West Dundee.
The ad says, along with the usual drivel, "Fill your basket with a Downy Chirping Chick!"
I didn’t think people did this anymore; I thought it was something we had outgrown as a culture, the way we outgrew the need to look for Commies under the bed.
So, what’s the skinny, Chicagoans? Are they still living in the Dark Ages out in the Western Territories, giving away live chicks and bunnies at Easter? Or is it just a come-on, and what you actually get is some kind of Made in China wind-up toy?
Just asking.
