Not really. I mean, yes, both involve cutting off parts of one’s naughty bits, but it’s not the same parts. The clitoris is developmentally and structurally analogous to the penile head, not a wad of skin around the shaft, and its damage/removal is the mildest form of FGM. The foreskin is more analogous to the labia minora. So it’s really not an apt or useful comparison at all. Now, if there were some common form of surgery that removed part or all a baby boy’s penile head (and sometimes cut off the whole penis, and sometimes took the scrotum for good measure and sewed the whole gaping hole into a passage just big enough to piss through), then you could compare it to FGM without sounding like nutbar. Or if FGM involved cutting off the labia minora and leaving everything else alone. But neither of those things is so, so it’s a totally stupid, useless, and nutty-sounding comparison.
Granted, I think cutting off the labia minora sounds like a pointless and unpleasant thing to do, and wouldn’t go for it absent some fairly blatant benefit, but it’s not the sort of thing that would destroy your sex life.
Then again, punching holes into a baby’s ears sounds pretty pointless and unpleasant, too. Yet we do it quite often, without even debatable health benefits to justify it.
And ftr, doctors cut out/off healthy tissue all the damn time. They’re called plastic surgeons, and they are very, very busy people.

People discussed the religious justifications of the practice, the legal foundations and so on. In short, I thought the German court got it backwards- religious circumcisions should be allowed, otherwise routine ones should be banned, and here’s how to accomplish that. Yes we have to recognize the widespread nature of the practice, and the need for society to continue to adhere for everyone’s own good. So. If your mother will at least shed one tear over the harm she’s caused and quit her support for circumcision and agree to dissuade others (and she doesn’t have to be aggressive about it), then you can let her off the hook. Otherwise, try not to let her off the hook.
That and vaginas aren’t penises – they function differently, and the reasons for FGM and consequences are much more dire. I’ve posted cites about it in his other threads on this topic, but it’s not what he wants to hear, so he ignores it.
Tell you what. Go talk to a lawyer or the police about charging your parents & the doctor with sexual assault and come back here with the results.

As for this study I agree that it is up to the family. If they want the baby boy circumcised or not is their choice.
This “woe is me” bullshit from circumcised men who whine that they were mutilated is nothing more than people trying to find something to bitch about. Tens of millions of men in the US are circumcised and the vast majority get on with life just fine and do not feel mutilated or have sexual dysfunctions related to it or find women rejecting them because they are circumcised.
