Attracting dragonflies?

Man, I love dragonflies.

They eat mosquitoes (a big deal here in the hellhole called Mississippi), they’re friendly, and they loook cool.

Is there something that attracts them? Can I put a Dragonfly Feeder™ on my balcony?

Anyone know anything about this?

-Joe, has four wings

They are attracted by small ponds with lots of aquatic plants in it, so they can comfortably sit on the leaves on or just above the waterline, and mate or lay eggs.

Most of them are carnivores, so you couldn’t attract them with something sugary like you can butterflies or kolibries.

When I was a kid, out with my naturestudygroup, we used to catch dragonflies with a butterflynet. When we caugth one, we would dunk it under water for a second. That cooled them, and they wouldn’t be able to fly for a minute or so afterwards until their fly-muscles had heated up enough again. In that minute, you could put them on your hand or nose (their legs grab anything you give them) and they would sit there for a minute before flying away, unharmed.

A lot of really cool pictures of kids with dragonflies on their noses were made that way.
