They are one of the coolest looking insects and I hear they eat vast quantities of mosquitoes…
So, How do attract dragonflies? How do I make my yard the Garden of Eden for Dragonflies…to make dragonflies for miles around yearn to live on or near my yard?
No, I’m not taking medication…why do you ask?
You could try breeding mosquitoes . . .
Well due to their voracious lake living larval stage, you need to be living near a decent, unpoluted lake. I believe dragonflies are highly effected by pesticides (being carniverous monsters of the insect world).
I too love dragonflies, fantastically strange creatures, but then again I am taking medication.
Yep, watre’s key here, but you don’t need a lake. At a resturant I used to eat at alot they used to get loads in the courtyard as they had a reasonably sized fountain with the water flowing into a sort of pond.
I think we have pleeeennnnnnttttttyyyyyyy of mosquitoes thank you very much!
Live near lake…nope.
No pesticides in water…nope…pesticides everywhere! People spray em at the drop of a hat.
Looks like I’m SOL.
On the plus side, I do have a frog living under one of my landscaped walls.
Well there may be some little hope still. That frog would have needed to be spawned somewhere, I doubt that frogs travel very far from their spawning area. And tadpoles = dragonfly-nymph food.
You better move…one frog turns into two…then three…five…Next thing you know Moses is taking your neighbors for a trip!
That part is certainly wrong. Perhaps you missed a couple of biology lessons at school?
This site may help the OP: Backyard Dragonflies. Ponds and/or other water features in your yard are surely the way to go.
