I’m about half way through Barack Obama’s book The Audacity of Hope (Amazon linky).
I’m enjoying the book a lot, but I’m its target audience. I’m a liberal Democratic political junkie who is fed up to my receding hairline with the current state of US politics, and also enjoys a well written, literary, self-effacing, and occasionally humorous book.
One of the problems I see with the current state of political discourse in the country is the lack of discourse. It seems like conservatives and liberals live in two entirely different countries that happen to occupy the same geographic space. I have to confess to my own lack of understanding of how my fellow citizens who happen to be conservative think and feel about a host of issues.
I’d like to open up conversation a bit between the “Red Team” and the “Blue Team”. I thought this book, in which a Presidential hopeful attempts to describe our current political situation and propose some solutions, might be a jumping off point. The SDMB membership has a wide range of political opinions, and has a lot of erudite writers. I would love to hear the opinions of people who have read, or are reading, the book. I’m particularly interested in the opinions of conservatives, since those opinions will be different from mine.
Since this is about a book, I’ve started this thread in Cafe Society. Mods, please move this to whichever forum you deem best, as the conversation evolves.
