Is it possible to play an audio CD from a mapped drive?
I can “see” the CD drive on the other PC, I can map to it, but I cannot open/play the tracks listed.
I’m wondering why?
Thanks,
Ook

You can’t[sup]*[/sup]. The file sharing protocol used by Windows does not abstract direct access to an audio CD. The “files” displayed when you mount a CD are virtual, not real, and the “files” shown are not actually visible at the file system level, which is where file sharing works. This is why all you can do with those “files” is play them; if they were real you could copy them to your hard drive by dragging, and so forth. You can’t.
[sup]*[/sup]Without additional software. It is theoretically possible to set up something, but it would not be simple.
