Audio fidelity

Audio Fidelity Records was known for its high quality audiophile recordings, including the first commercial stereophonic disc, in 1957. The Wikipedia article on “Stereophonic sound” says Audio Fidelity went out of business in the early 1960s. But company founder Sidney Frey sold the business in 1965, and I remember buying Audio Fidelity records in the early 1970s. Anyone know when they actually went out of business?

Google Answers indicates that the original founder, Sidney Frey, sold the company in the mid 60 to Herman Gimbel. A company called Scripophily is selling some certificates issed by Audio Fidelity in 1969 and 1979, so someone was using that name.

Someone has started a new recording company under the name Audio Fidelity, but reading the company history, there is no mention of it being a continuance of the old company.

Thanks, TOC. That certainly dispels the idea that the company folded in the early '60s, and confirms my memory of buying AF records in the '70s. Those old enough will remember the many volumes of sound effects records that AF published over the years.
