Audiophiles: Rate Bank&Olufson Stereo Gear

I’ve always been fascinated by B&O audio stuff-the designs are very unusual, and pretty cool-I like the CD doors that open with the wave of your hand, the digital controls, and he very cool displays. But how good is the actual audio quality? I suspect that true audiophiles rate B&O somehwta above BOSE-pretty but not all that good. And (of course), this stuff is insanely expensive.
So, the question I pose is: is B&O really high quality sound? r are you paying for the pretty wrappings?

I am not an audiophile, but, holy crap, B & O stuff is soooooo beautiful.

It’s more like functional sculpture than electronic equipment.

Also curious to hear what people think of it’s ostensible function.

Well, I’m not an audiophile so I can’t answer your actual question, but I will point out that it’s Bang & Olufsen.

I’ve never owned it, but in audio forums they seem to have a reputation for just being pretty and not being very good for the money.

This has been my impression - not first-hand myself, but what I get from audiophile friends…

I have always assumed a true audio geek would care more about assembling components that produce the best sound, even if the parts don’t look great together or require a lot of patching together - vs. something all sleek and chrome and GQ-bachelor-dude-looking…

I bought the Beogram 4002 turntable in the 70s. Used, because that was the only way I could afford one. Still use it. I’ve always thought it to be wonderful.

Never bought anything else, though. I lust at the catalogs but the prices bring detumescence.
