I love salads! Thanks for reminding me I have a good vinaigrette waiting for me in my cupboards.
Wee Weasel made a friend. I didn’t think it could happen but this kid is super outgoing probably ADHD and flings his arms around my kid without thinking twice. And Wee Weasel kind of digs it. The other day when I went to pick him up he was actually sitting playing with this kid and talking to him in his own weird way, the way he talks to me or his Dad. And then he said, “Goodbye, Friendsname!” without being prompted. I’m talking about some serious growth.
We’ve just been informed that Friend is “not a good fit” for our daycare and will be leaving. We are heartbroken. I don’t know how to explain this to a three year old. I know it’s irrational but I’m scared he’ll never get this chance again.
aw, poor dude. i hope you can still meet up with his friend outside of a daycare.
My last two desktop computers were used, which came with new keyboards which both had letters that quickly faded out. Today I bought a Logitech K120 for $16.99 at Office Depot, which was the only corded USB keyboard that they carried. Hopefully a brand name keyboard will have letters that last.
The Gotthard Tunnel is kind of creepy, being in the dark, under so many tons of rock, for so long. So it’s very common for people to drive/bus over the pass instead. In a just world, it takes about an hour, but there’s often construction.
If you rent a car, like we did, don’t cheap out, like we did, and rent a tiny 3-cylinder Euro Wienie car, like we did. Then you’ll be barely making forward progress up the mountain while the Germans on holiday are flying past you.
Me too! Most days of the week I have a salad. It’s a great way to get healthy greens that actually taste good.
I change off on dressings. I usually have several open bottles in the fridge; besides the aforementioned ranch and honey mustard I currently have a sesame vinaigrette and garlic parmesan. I also mix different things in with the greens like radishes, craisins, hard-boiled egg, cheese crumbles, chopped red cabbage, and croutons.
The biggest problem I have with salads is remembering to have them before the greens start wilting.
Ditto what @rocking_chair said. Get the parents’ contact info and arrange playdates now so that WW can keep his pal and maybe not be so torn up about it when the kid leaves.
I try to plan my meals ahead of time and know when I’m going to each which one.
Even then, I still have problems with a salad getting to be unpalatable before I have a chance to eat it.
Sadly, the forgotten ones I’ve found in the pantry say yes. The oil goes rancid, and you can smell it upon opening the bottle.
I do try to plan my meals, but sometimes my plans change at the last minute. As an example, I was going to have salad for lunch yesterday, but got involved with a project in the morning and by the time I decided to break for lunch I wasn’t in the mood to deal with making a salad. So I had salad today instead.
I love salad too, and buy it every week planning to eat a salad before dinner. However, most weekdays time gets away from us, doing chores or talking or whatever, and dinner needs to be rushed to get back on track. So the salad course gets cut and by the weekend it’s gone bad. I feed it to the goat, buy some more, and the cycle starts anew.
That’s another reason, I was supposed to have a salad on Sunday but plans changed and I couldn’t have it, so I have one extra. I’m going to see if the extra salad will last the distance.
I live in Switzerland, so I’ve done the train trip, in both tunnels, many times. I have yet to go through the auto tunnel, but others consider it a pain in the ass, especially if there is traffic. Current back up is only 8 minutes. During certain times that can get up to 8 hours.
If we were to take a car, we’d take our own. We’re sticking with the train, but we’re figuring out the details.
I’m more annoyed that this is something that I thought was settled. The actual trip will probably be okay. I hope.
I’m very lucky to have a veggie garden so fresh salad is pretty much a nightly thing in the summer.
For those of you who aren’t quite so lucky, a few Mesclun greens seeds tossed into a container will yield fresh lettuce for salad at your fingertips in a few weeks.
Mine is the opposite. It’s been years and I’m still mourning my parents. As a child, they forced me to eat ‘and like’ liver and onions. As my tastebuds changed ( as an adult) I did. But… almost no restaurants anywhere near me make it.
I get it… it’s two day prep: you need to soak the liver completely in whole milk for at least a full 24-hours to get the bitterness out of it. No restaurant is going to do that ( unless you contact them ahead of time and order it as a catered dish ). Yes, it really is a traditional Irish dish… probably more so than fish and chips… but I’m guessing that it is a lost art.
In modern Ireland, people would probably much rather eat kebobs or chicken or steak… and would probably spit on the ground if you ever asked them to eat liver and onions.
Maybe it was an old wives tale that eating liver was good for your liver… but lets be honest: Americans are the ones who drink too much, not the Irish. Here, people would rather chicken McNuggets.
I was out in the garden yesterday evening and heard a familiar thrum of wings, looked up and saw a hummingbird drinking nectar from the blossoms of a nearby Salvia. As I watched, another hummingbird approached from stage left.
Immediately, the first hummingbird darted at the intruder, forcing it away, then returned to its interrupted meal, squeaking in triumph.
Nasty little territorial beasts, they are.
Also, very nosy. Many times I’ve had one approach to within a couple feet of me and hover, to investigate what I’m doing before zooming off.
Apparently not. Hes saying she gave him a black eye while he was sleeping.
They do have bully birds in the hummingbird world. One bird will pick a food source and bulky any other birds that come near. If it happens around a feeder there are gentle defences you could do to disrupt the bully.
Got a new TV today since the old one went kaput.
The TV itself is nice - a Sony Bravia. But OF COURSE the Logitech Harmony remote does not work with it. At. All.
Supposedly the remote that came with the TV should work with our satellite box. It - does not. The box will turn on, I can see channel listings and there’s a clunky way to go directly to a particular channel, but if I want to, say, get to my list of recorded shows, I see a button on the screen for it under the DirecTV Controls menu, but it does not work. At. All. None of the other buttons on that menu work either. I have to use the DirecTV remote for that.
I can find no support documents on Logitech’s site to fix the Harmony remote. All they say is that the Harmony is compatible with these models of TV.
DirecTV’s forums say you have to use both the Sony and the DirecTV remotes - there’s no way to fix the Sony remote’s glitches with the DirecTV menu.
Also, Sony? WHY oh WHY do you not have an exit button on your remote? Back button only.
Swell.
