Yeah, I’m getting fed up with this too. Subway is the worst. They’ve been plugging their “Subway Series” sandwiches on ads, and they look pretty tasty, but there’s only so much that can be conveyed in a 30 second TV spot. So, I’ll look online, at the Subway website for more detail.
“Start your order.”
Well, hang on, I wasn’t actually going to place an order, I just wanted to see what Subway is selling. Let’s click “Menu” on the top banner …
Now, I’ve got all the Subways within 300 miles, and which would I like to order from?
Well, actually none. I just want to see a menu. But if you insist, I’ll select one. After all, I can always cancel an order, right?
“Select your order.” Okay, fine.
Only it appears that I have to put in my name, my address, my phone number, whether it will be pickup or delivery, and whether I’ll pay by credit card or Interac, before I even get to see a menu.
Nope, that’s too much information to give up, and effort to make, just to see a menu, when I have no intention of ordering. I’ll go into the supermarket next door to Subway, and get the ingredients for a ham and cheese and tomato sandwich that I can make at home. For less money, really. Outside of the ingredients, my only cost is the time it takes me to make a sandwich.
Subway, you’re killing yourself with the “you can’t see an online menu without giving up a lot of personal information.” Bet you’d get a lot more business if you just posted your menu online, and gave up on the data collection crap.
