Can someone please explain to me the origin of the “smoke and a pancake” gag in the new Austin Powers movie. The set up is Goldmember is sitting with Dr. Evil and the “smoke and a pancake” comes up (followed by “cigar and a waffle”, “pipe and a crepe”, and “bong and a blintz”).
We have asked several people what the meaning of “smoke and a pancake” is and they are just as clueless as us (we’ve even asked some Dutch friends!). Anyone out there have any insight into Mike Myers’ brain?
The best I could come up with on this was a British guy on Usenet using the phrase “Smoke me a pancake, I’ll be back for breakfast.” Its probably not related to your question (I haven’t seen Goldmember yet), but its the best I could come up with using search engines.
I haven’t seen it either, and the lack of context is driving me nuts. WHAT, exactly, do they say, and who says it, and in response to what?
For now, it’s sounding like Maralinn has it. I can see a Mike Myers host saying "Can I offer you anything? A drink? Breakfast? A smoke and a pancake? [meaning “sex with one of my female minions (or with the host if that’s the way it swings–I haven’t seen the movie)”]
I think maralinn’s answer may be the most likely - however who the hell knows, there really is too much sexual slang
Nametag: I realize that the lack of context is enough to make your brain explode (unfortunately I don’t remember what exactly the characters said except that they were all sitting in Dr. Evil’s ‘lair’) - however you may want to just wait for the video…the movie wasn’t worth the $9!
