Australian oranges

There I was peeling my orange. I look down at the sticker and see a little kangaroo. Australian oranges, huh?

Can’t I even get an American orange these days? Why Australia? Has the US shipped all of their oranges to Asia and Europe so that we must now import oranges from Australia to feed ourselves? Is it really cheaper to ship them for weeks on a boat from the furthest point away on the earth than to drive them on a truck or train from California(I’m in Washington.)

No biggie, it is only because in the US they are out of season right now:

If it makes you feel any better, Californian navel oranges are very common on the Australian domestic market when they are in peak season (in about 6 months time).
