Author of "How to Murder Your Husband" charged with murdering husband [update: sentenced to life in prison]

Maybe keep an eye on what your spouse is writing about on-line?

I do not envy her defense attorney. Disproving premeditation is going to be a problem.

Reminds me of a Denis Leary comedy bit:

I’m up here in Heaven, Lou Gehrig is up Here with me
God love Lou Gehrig, Jesus Christ, poor Lou Gehrig
Died of Lou Gehrig’s disease
How the Hell did he not see that coming?

I don’t think “making a killing in the book market” covers this.

Holy shit. If someone wrote a mystery like this or the plot of a TV show, people would scoff.

awww,I dunno. I’m a little disappointed.
An author who can write a title like that ought to at least provide a good story with a complex plot,

But all she did was shoot the guy at his place of employment, after driving there in her own car and being recorded on traffic cameras

Geez…anybody can do that.
I was expecting an Agatha-Christie-style mystery with a surprise ending.

I’m not completely sure what you are referring to. But FWIW, the judge has barred the prosecution from bringing up “How to Murder Your Husband” in the trial.

I’ll wait for the publication of “How to Get Away With Murdering Your Husband.”

Would be even better if her piece was titled “How To Murder Your Husband And Get Away With It” and then her being acquitted in the trial. Could become a seller.

Then she could write one called “If I Did It”

:+1: Perfect!

I’m busy at work, can someone tell me what is actually in that book of hers? Is it a how-to guide? A novel?

Northern Piper’s link refers to it once as “an essay”, and once as “an online post”. It doesn’t give any detail.

It seems to be a popular topic. Amazon lists three books with the title:

How to Murder Your Husband: It Came From the Heart (Don’t Try This at Home.)
by Boo Heisey.

How to Murder Your Husband: A Killer Cookbook
by Ann Altman and Marilyn Gonzalez.

How to Murder Your Husband and Get Away With It: A Planner
by H G W.

From this page:

Brophy’s “How to Kill Your Husband,” was a 700-word essay that was published on the blog, See Jane Publish, in November 2011. Brophy wrote, “As a romantic suspense writer, I spend a lot of time thinking about murder and, consequently, about police procedure… After all, if the murder is supposed to set me free, I certainly don’t want to spend any time in jail.” The motives for the murder listed in the fictional essay are infidelity, greed and being in an abusive relationship. Brophy wrote, “Divorce is expensive, and do you really want to split your possessions?” The essay goes on, “What if killing didn’t produce the right result? Would they do it again? Could they do it again? What if they liked it?

Interesting.

Wait for my essay How To Make Grace Jones, Salma Hayek And Shakira Pay You For A Fourway.

Fingers crossed.

Y’know, a 700-word essay kind of puts this in a different light than a novel, like we’d been assuming…

EDIT: Especially a 700-word essay from over a decade ago.

Evidently VERY pre-meditated.

Convicted!

One look at that pic in the OP was all I needed to identify the woman as a psycho.

Should I be worried that my new wife is totally addicted to the sort of fiction where somebody, usually male, dies horribly near the beginning and at the end the primary female characters all go out for white wine?

“Load, aim, fire.”

She has to repay all but 0.0043% for the essay.
