Automotive adornments - an observational MMP

Yeah, this is truly mundane, but that’s the wonderfullness that is the MMP, right?

Personal observation, no scientific study involved, data points limited to what I notice. (end of disclaimer)

It is a rare, noteworthy event to see a vehicle with only one bumper sticker or window adornment - have you noticed this? Either cars have nothing stuck on the bumper/window, or they’ve got multiple statements. Not counting parking permits - those are a different category.

My sister used to drive a Maverick back in the middle 70s, and the whole back of her car, trunk included, was papered with bumper stickers. There had to be at least two dozen in various stages of fade and peel. I think towards the end of the car’s life, they’re all that held the back end together…

I was reminded of this yesterday as I drove behind a sedan that was well-adorned. It had a bumper sticker, two magnetic “ribbons” and 3 or 4 (they all ran together) of those window sticker thingies. I guess if I’d taken psychology, I could analyze the vehicle owner, but this particular one was, um, unique.

OK, that’s as far as I’m going with this. We know this is just an excuse to start another MMP. Except to ask if you decorate your vehicle. We won’t judge - we are all about the love here. And we’re nice, dammit!

So, no, I have no stickers on my Scion, apart from the one that gets me on base.

First! Woot!

Interesting OP, I don’t have anything stuck to the car apart from the dealership’s sticker in the back window that tells the world I can’t be bothere to walk more than 5mins from my front door to buy a car. Yes, that’s how far the dealership is from home. Very convenient when I get the car serviced as I only have to drive down the street and round the corner onto the main road.

The only other stickers it’s ever had are car park passes for various festivals, but they get peeled off once I get home again. Some cars I’ve seen are just littered with stickers and soft toys etc, sometimes makes me wonder how they can see what’s coming up behind them!

No stickers here. Now I’ll be watching cars for stickers all week…

Still sleepy…

Off to search for caffeine.

Happy Monday, everyone!

GT

Howdy Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ on my day off. Ima go get busy in a bit and mow da yahd just to get it over with.

My favorite bumper sticker as of late is on a neighbor’s van. This neighbor lives up the road and I don’t know her but I gather she works for the USPS. The bumper sticker says: “Back Off! I’m a postal worker!”

The weirdest ones are those “In Memory Of” window decals that cover the entire back window of vehicles. I really am sorry for that person’s loss of a loved one but that’s seems to be carrying things a bit far. Just strange to me. However, it ain’t my vehicle so it ain’t my bidness, right?

Ok, time for more caffiene and some brekkies.

Happy Monday Y’all!

My thoughts precisely! Doesn’t make me shake my head any less, tho.

Incidentally, when my untimely demise arrives, I don’t want all of your Mumpers turning your cars into memorials for me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow, I’ve never noticed memorial ones. Very odd.

Afternoon all!

Those memorial ones always struck me as odd - I was wondering if they were a west coast thing as I didn’t notice them anywhere else in the US I had been.

I is off on my travels again in an hour or so - off to Kazakhstan so have a good week everyone!

I have my St Christopher with me that my Dad just gave me in the hope I get through this trip without a hospital vist.

I decorate my car with Hurricanes themed stuff(bumper stickers, magnets, window pucks). I have a Food Bank of N.C. bumper sticker, but since the Booster Club does a food drive for them, it is technically hockey related. Off to work, since I spent the lottery money on beer again.

I have on the Foomobile two window stickers and a cling. One is for the NC state Firefighters association, the second for the state Rescue association, and the cling is for the NASA Langley Research Center (my old employer).

Odd things from the weekend…

  • A bear (N. O. S.) came a calling, and emptied my trash trailer all of my garbage. How do I know it was a bear? There were doggish looking prints in the sand that were as big as the palm of my hand.

  • The neighbor kid came over yesterday for a bit, and I walked him home when it was time. I find lots of odd stuff along the road, and yesterday takes top honors: a pee stick preggo test. The lucky girl did not have a bun in the oven…

  • My bambilance shift was with LorraineTheBabe. Some shift. When we weren’t doing our 2 runs, she was sleeping. The poor girl had not slept in the previous 48 hours.

Off to get more WTHU.

We have a Marine Corps sticker or two on the rides, and our used truck was owned by a firefighter, and I believe we have one from him. I’m not a fan of the bumper sticker, myself. I find them distracting. Especially the ones that take some time to read.

Looking forward to a cooler coupla days this week. I’m on “forced” vacation this week and I’d like to take in a bit of Chicago. Hoping to get to Millennium Park and the Art Institute. I’ll probably take a pass on Taste of Chicago, though. Mr. K gets a bit naused from the overwhelming number of food smells, and I certainly don’t need to consume more calories at the moment. Happy Monday morning, y’all!

No stickers here. I did buy a little chrome alma mater thingy but just kinda lost interest when it came time to put it on. Since then my daughter’s confiscated it and it now graces one little red wagon.

I’ve only had one sticker on a vehicle in all my years of driving. It was a jeep and it noted, quite eloquently actually, that Mean People Suck.

I have a lot of decals on my car. The ones on the back windshield are from my Older Sister who owned the car before me, the rest are mine. Like most people around here I have an Obama/Biden sticker, but I didn’t put mine on until after the election–it’s there to remind me of the time I took part in a spontaneous rally/party/parade in the streets of Pirateville celebrating our constitutionally guaranteed right to overthrow a government. My incredibly conservative father offered to scrape it off when he saw it.

Irish Brother (formerly Mountain Friend, just to confuse everyone) has just an Obama/Biden sticker on his car. Moody Friend (IB’s boyfriend) has an equality sticker on his. I have no idea how they have so much restraint.

In other news, I can has employment? I just got accepted for a position at the hotel chain that Moody Friend works for. I go in today for the paperwork/orientation dance. I have a feeling my bank account is going to be crying tonight–I need to get some more blouses and such and possibly they all have to be one pricey brand because the chain has an “agreement” with the clothier in question. If this is the case, I’m saving the reciept and giving it to Ye Olde Tax Man next year to get some money back for it. I’ve still got a couple of other applications out there. I haven’t given up on the educational system yet.

Hell, I’M incredibly conservative, and I’d have a bumpersticker on my car announcing the constitutional right to overthrow a government.

ETA: Congrats on getting a gig, even if it’s not the one you want…

morning all! Up, caffeinated (well, as caffeinated as I’m going to get today I think … I overdosed on sugar yesterday …) and at work here. Since the 4th of July is on Saturday, we’ll get Friday off, so four day work week, yay!

Interesting OP idea, FCM! I don’t drive or have a car, though, but have seen plenty of bumper stickers. One that concerns me greatly read: so many pedestrians, so little time … And then there is what my daughter and I call “the horsy van,” which is a regular van that the owner has tacked all kinds of palomino horses, in just about every form imaginable, onto. This includes statues/toys of horses as well as decals. It’s a riot, although we haven’t seen it recently and are beginning to wonder about it.

I haven’t felt a desperate need to share my sense of wit through bumper stickers (e.g. “it will ge a great day when the schools have all the money they need and the air force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber,” or a Darwin-fish, or…). But I do have a few stickers on the back of my car:

-a logo for www.bmwst.com (a motorcycle website I help moderate; I also designed the logo)

-Iron Butt Association

-AMA (American Motorcyclist Association)

-MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation)

a big “W” (for University of Wisconsin)

The luggage on my motorcycle is even more decorated. Same stickers, plus others trumpeting the brands of the gear and equipment I use. There is also a modest memorial sticker for a fellow rider who was killed by an inattentive driver in '07, a smaller (than on the car) “W,” and a couple of other ones. Mostly I just like the splashes of color; the bike is supposed to be about fun/pleasure, and the stickers help to break up what would otherwise be a monotonous, conservative paint job.

See, I like the paint job on my bike and therefore don’t feel the need to spoil it with a load of stickers!

No stickers on our cars. However, I did get Dad a Texas Longhorn stick-on (like a Darwin fish.)

I’m still pooped. I have a load of clothes in the fryer, and one in the washer. I need to decide what we will eat this week, and go to the grocery store.

We had a very good time, though!

Mr. Bubbles and I say “hi”

We saw a lovely truck yesterday absolutely covered in Notre Dame stickers, Go Army stickers, and lovely patriotic sentiments about “Welcome to America - Now Speak English!”

The hilarious thing is, it was a Mazda.

I don’t have anything on my ride, but my brother has a PETA sticker on his truck People Eating Tasty Animals.

I’m taking advantage of my day off to catch up on chores around here. I’ve been so wrapped up in my new love, I have neglected the vacuuming, dishes, laundry, bathroom etc. and since she’s at work, I won’t get distracted.
