Automotive service counter rep salaries question.

Almost a GQ, but I’m looking for opinions too. Soooo…. IMHO.

My nephew works at a service counter for a Honda dealership. He writes up the orders for people getting work done on their cars. He is also in a position to be able to talk to the mechanics and recommend work that needs to be done. Including additional service/maintenance work that the customer did not originally come in for.

That’s fine. He’s an honest Joe. But what seems strange is that he works commission. Strictly commission. So, the more he can talk the customer into, the more he makes. Many of these people don’t know a thing about cars.

Seems like a situation that would be ripe for abuse.

Is this the way all dealerships are?
