Autosave Directory in MS Excel

I come to you, The Teeming Millions, with this problem.

An important Excel file at my place of employment has (as they are wont to do) exploded.

I know that Excel has an autosave feature and am hoping that among the automatic saves I will find an earlier version of the file that is stable.

Can someone tell me the directory where I may find these automatically saved files stored in? Additionally, the file has been worked on in Excel 2003 and Excel 2007 so if the directories are different for each version, it would be a boon of epic proportions to have the autosave directory for each (They may be the same. I’m unsure).

I’m trying to impress Mr. Big Wig with my ability to troubleshoot major problems very quickly so any help would be much appreciated. He needn’t know that I came to the TM for assistance.

In 2003, go to Tools > Options > Save to see where the AutoRecovery folder is. Can’t speak to 2007, don’t have it here at home.

Problem solved. I’m on 2007 now and was able to find the directory because the 03 instructions you gave reminded me of something. I can now find both and all is right with the world.

Many thanks.

Happy to help!
