Anyone else watching this show? Today was the season finale which I thought was great. The show isn’t as great as it should be, but it has a lot of potential. It seems to suffer from cartoons are for kids trap but the writing seems to be getting better. Characters actually develope and characters die.
The season finale was great. It advanced the storyline, which it sorely needed, and introduced a new protagonist, Zuko’s sister, for next season. Can’t wait for that. Speaking of Zuko I really am enjoying his character development and that of his relationship with his uncle.
My kid (6) watches this, and I’m kinda getting into it. The finale was cool, and the whole premise of the series is great fun as are the characters. Kudos to Nick.
I was surprised by this episode: two secondary but repeating characters were ‘killed’ – Soka’s squeeze became the moon spirit* when she gave her life back to the dead koi, and Admiral Zhou (sp?) was ‘eaten’ by the water spirit (apparently piloted by Ang). Kinda heavy for a kid’s serial.
*I’d guess the moon-girl will appear in a later episode to help Soka when he’s in dire straits.
Oh, yeah – I really like the whole yin/yang thing with Zuko vs. Ang (and the Uncle getting in the middle of Zuko’s dealings). I can picture Zuko being a piece of the puzzle where Zuko eventually helps Ang defeat the Fire Nation, either through Zuko’s subversice acts inadvertantly speeding Ang to his goal, or Zuko somehow becoming grudging Ang’s ally.
I think Zuko will emerge as the Fire Nation’s new leader and Ang’s ally after all is said and done. He is a pretty complex character. He has shown both compassion and ruthlessness. I beleive that his one motivating factor now is to please his father to make up for the War Council incident. That’s why he is trying so hard to get the Avatar. Once he is freed from that he will realize the wrong that the Fire Nation is doing to the world and try to guide his people back into the balance of things, overthrowing the Fire Lord, his father, in the process.
