I’m not sure that you’ve followed my point here, since I also think that I can recognize notable people by name. e.g. If lekatt were to join a thread, I’d remember that he is religious and has a deep interest in NDEs.
But I’m talking about within a thread. Beyond 4 or 5 people and 2 pages of discussion it gets to be a chore following who said what and how people’s positions might have changed. Every thread looks like this to me.
I just waded through eight pages of dick-shriveling nonsense to be sure I didn’t repeat something some one else already had said. But no; it was the suck-a-thon that it warranted.
On a marginally related note, my wife just forced me to watch the high-budget POS that is Avatar. James Cameron spent 330 MILLION dollars to make this high tech bowel movement. 330 fucking million. I could crap a better movie for 1% of that, but the point is… That amount of money would buy… what, dinner for a couple zillion hungry people. People who may not have blue skin but are hungry nonetheless. But Repubs/conservatives are the assholes in the world…
I’m gonna not buy fire insurance for $75 and juggle flaming matchsticks. Good thing I don’t live in rural Tennesee, where my civic choices might be judged by limosine liberals.
And avatars BLOW, unless you are F-ing twelve years old.
I have my standards of taste, like anyone else. My point was, however, it was more democratic to let those who like avatars have them, since as was pointed out, you can easily elect not to see them. I don’t see any point to YOUR post other than to stir shit up.
Cant remember any offhand, but there was one fellow who had a reference to his palm that was pretty disgusting, another username referenced oozing lesions, and there were a lot of others, some of whom prolly still post, but I have forgotten them and are perfectly happy to have done so, and hopefully will not remember them in the future.
That’s really quite irrelevant to the discussion. We were all using the same definition of avatar, let’s not confuse one of the few aspects of the discussion on which we were all on the same page.
You know, I find it quite funny that people are arguing that avatars will lower the level of discourse here, (Because, you know, Funny Things Said During Sex and Pan-Fried Semen were soooo erudite) when the board has trashy google ads, popups and people have reported getting malware from the board. It is to laugh.
Sure, I get it, but the OP’s premise is that he is opposed to avatars because they are “shallow, dumb, childish, insecure,…”
“What is the attraction? You really want to have a silly little picture beside every post?” he asks. How different is that from a silly little moniker (bucketybuck, say) beside every post? Does the form alter the silliness?
Agreed. In fact, I think even letters are pushing it. From now on I shall be known as 01000001010000110110110001101111011000110110101101110111011011110111001001101011010011010110010101101100011011110110111000101110.
Actually, even that’s too boorish. From now on we won’t use usernames at all. We’ll all post anonymously because frankly, I don’t want to be able to identify other posters. Everyone knows that the greatest, most intellectual boards use anonymous posting.
Did you mean to bold it?: 01000001010000110110110001101111011000110110101101110111011011110111001001101011010011010110010101101100011011110110111000101110?
Or is that too flashy?

You new kids are completely ruining our glorious board. I don’t think we should even have the ability to bold, italicize or underline. We should strive for uniformity in all things.
Agreed, including the content of our posts…starting now.
