average cost of wisdom tooth extraction where you live.

Hello, not sure if this should be posted here or in GQ, but what the heck.

I took my son to the oral surgeon today for a consultation prior to having his wisdom teeth extracted. End result was $230 spent to find that it will cost an additional $2483 to have the four of them removed. Three are soft tissue extractions and one is in the bone, which means that particular tooth will be more expensive to extract.

It occured to me that there aren’t really any established published prices at any of our local oral surgeons, so that this could be the average cost of wisdom tooth extraction, it could be below the normal cost, or it could be more expensive than normal and I’d have no way of knowing. So now I turn to you, the bastion of all knowledge. What is the average cost for extraction of wisdom teeth?

I had three extracted in 1995. They really went in for them as two were still pretty small and down in my jawbone. They put me under, which was extra, and I think the whole thing was under $1,000.

I just paid $1100 for root canal.

I have dental insurance so I don’t know how much my extractions will be (the root hasn’t been submitted to insurance yet).

I just had all four of my wisdom teeth removed. Cost a little over $2000. I had a complication with one of my teeth (it was all slanty) but I don’t believe that we paid extra because of it. I’ll ask my mother exactly how much we paid tomorrow and report back.

I had three removed last year. After insurance I had to pay $600. And this was with a local anesthetic and zero complications.

Just had all 4 removed over the summer. Local anesthetic, panoramic x-ray (really cool by the way, the guy let me take a picture of it), 3 normal extractions and 1 that required shaving down part of my jaw bone to remove. Right around $1000 before insurance.

Depends. Are we talking general or local anesthesia?

I had a wisdom tooth yanked back in 1999 or 2000, local anesthesia, and it was about $85. I imagine my current dentist charges about $100.

Being knocked out and having all 4 removed at once? Probably about 2k.

I lied…did the math wrong. I know it wasn’t over 2k but it was a little more than the 1k I previously mentioned. It was more like $1600 total.

Thanks folks!

Wow and I thought mine was high. I paid $635 to the dentist and $200 to the anesthesiologist for the removal of 4 wisdom teeth and one extra.

A couple of years ago, I had to have a wisdom tooth extracted. I’m not sure exactly how much the cost was, but I believe it was under $200–it was a uncomplicated procedure and was done in the dentist’s office using a local anesthetic.

I would imagine that the more difficult and complicated the procedure becomes (impacted tooth, general anesthetic, etc.), the higher the cost will go.

It also matters what state you’re in, Spoons. I live in WV, which has the highest malpractice insurance rates in the nation, so healthcare is usually higher here.

I could only get ball park figures. But, we payed $1400, insurance paid the rest. I was completely knocked out, all four removed. Dallas area doctor.

Mine cost over $5K in Newport Beach, CA over ten years ago. No significant problems, either, so you guys got off cheap!
