Average Length Of Job Search?

Ha! I was looking for a job for two and half months. Now, I know compared to whatever others have posted that doesn’t seem like a long time but it has been the longest I’ve ever been unemployeed. I finally found a job. Where? The place that I was previously employed at. They hadn’t been able to fill the position since I left.

I’ve been looking for a job for about 19 days.

I have what I think is a good prospect- I just completed the second interview with them and am awaiting a third interview. The recruiter called me 20 minutes ago to tell me that they haven’t made a decision yet; they’ll call me on monday. So I have been in ‘hiring limbo’ for a week and a half now. I really wish they could just give me a straight answer now. The company received 50,000 resumes this year. If I’m lucky I will be one of the 250 who gets hired. :stuck_out_tongue:

Personally I’m finding that it is far easier to go after the jobs that don’t require a BA degree but having one is a plus. A lot of places that require a BA degree set that as the minimum standard, and quite a lot of people who got better grades, went to better schools, or got a higher degree (MA for example) are all competing with me for the same job. :frowning: At least with the former I have some edge against the other teeming millions of applicants.

I’ve done three in the last 7 years. The shortest was two weeks and the longest was almost six months. (I was actually “hired” at about 4 months, but they weren’t certain that the contract money was going to come through for an additional two months.)

My husband did one most recently and it took about 4 months, but he was employed during that time.

I’m doing research for a contract firm and he’s an executive admin. type.
