The title says it all, really… I was wondering about the average number of posts per day to this board.
Here’s the context: I was talking to Spoz this morning, and he mentioned that he got bored of forums sometimes… especially those that seem to add six zillion posts per day to themselves on a very regular basis. (he was kind of referencing this place, actually)
Now, obviously he was kidding for comic effect with the six zillion posts thing. But that set me to wondering…
Anyone have any answers? (or leads to one?) Thanks!
Oh yes… I should mention that he called me an evil Doper fiend. (probably because he thinks I’m trying to get him hooked on the place… no, I’m not really)
Well, according to the main page, we’ve got 3,125,972 posts, and the board opened March 8, 1999, or 1111 days ago. So that’s an average of over 2813 posts per day. Of course, that’s over the lifetime of the board, and the instantaneous average now would be higher, but it would take at least a week to calculate that accurately.
Chronos – I’m not up for lengthy calculations myself; how about you and others do it for me? (unless there’s some really easy formula to calculate it accurately)
interface2x – There is that… and the other times the boards went down resulting in lost posts. (like last year right around my birthday when it went down for two days or so)
CK Dexter Haven: 1111 days is probably cool because of the repetitive number 1 in that figure.
Anthracite: A statistics DUMP?!? Oh wait… you’re probably not talking about that kind of dump… never mind. I have got to stop hanging around my brother and his friends… but I love 'em anyway, so what’s to do?
Flamsterette: All you do is you look at the number of posts (given on the front page) at one time, and then look at that same number a week later. The difference between those two numbers is the number of posts made in a week. Then, take the posts per week, and divide by 7, and you’ve got the average posts per day. Or you can do 2 weeks, and divide by 14, etc. You want to use a whole number of weeks, because the Board is probably more busy on some days than others: Average posts on a Wednesday is probably not the same as average posts on a Sunday.
Someone remember to check the number next Wednesday evening, the 9th.
