Increasing post count?

I’ve been a member of SDMB for many, many years now, but it seems to me that the typical daily total post count has gone up dramatically in the last few months. Are there statistics available to confirm or refute this?

Dramatically? Doesn’t seem so. The search engine finds 157 posts made in the past six months, and 635 posts older than six months. I know that doesn’t add up to 1,141 total, so don’t ask me where those other posts went (gobble gobble?).

1,141 posts over roughly seven years ≈ .5 posts a day. 157 posts over the past six months ≈ 1.15 posts a day. So there’s an increase. But this is only my loosey goosey math, since no one else has come in to say hi.

As far as the stats being available? Some boards may have that information available, but in your profile all I see is:

I think the OP refers to total posts across the board.

The boards post count probably rose dramatically as JDavis restored a huge numbers of posts that had previously been removed.

This might be what you are talking about flex727, I am not sure.

No, what I’m seeing is a full page of new posts on nearly every sub-forum every 8-10 hours. Previously I recall that a full page of new posts would take about 24 hours to be generated.

According to Bigboards the actual posting has stayed about the same. Take a look the number of posts for the year graph.

According to Alexa the Dope views have actually been declining. On the graph choose **page views **and range of Max. I am unsure if anything else affects this. But if they ever get the Open Google search running again it would bring in a lot more views.

I don’t know of a way to checking further past but over the time I have been on the board I believe that over all the posting has declined a bit in numbers in the forums except for the Game Room of course. The Pit has slowed down a lot and I think since the board returned to free posting that GQ has increased again. These however are only observations.
