Why does AVG make it so difficult to find their free edition? I always thought the free stuff was to get people to use it, like it, and then upgrade. If not, why offer it free at all?
Or do they only want IT guys to be able to find it?

Google “AVG FREE”.
You’ll find it every time.
Or, you can simply remember http://free.avg.com/
Just be careful - they have all sorts of little twists and turns to see if they can make you click on a link so you have to purchase something.
Thanks, I did wind up finding it. But the pop up telling me I’d have to upgrade by April 30th didn’t offer it, and neither did the home button. I guess they figure that since I already had it they may as well try to force me to buy the non free edition.
Clicking the popup should have taken you to the upgrade page; the link for the free edition is at the very bottom right corner of that page.
I agree it’s a hunt, but it’s there.
There is an alternative to playing “Hunt the freebie”. Just go to www.filehippo.com and dl the free software of your choosing from them directly.
I like Snapfileshttp://snapfiles.com which is similar to filehippo. Download.Com is good too, but I don’t care for the fact they have too many, adware type stuff, though they DO tell you it is such
I downloaded AVG from Snapfiles and pretty much everything else. With download.com, snapfiles, or filehippo you know you’re not getting a virus in disguise. Well I suppose it’s possible but not at all common.
Thanks for the info. I bookmarked those sites.
I used AVG for awhile and while it seemed effective, I hated the constant barrage of auto updates. I like Avast much better.
