I thought we were talking about people killing their children, which is what happened in this case. I googled it, and found an insane amount of names. Women who killed their children in the past few years in the US.

No one in their right mind murders their kids or commits suicide. Obviously it’s a mental defect.

I would agree with the first but not the second. There are perfectly logical and rational reasons to commit suicide.

I have read so many rants saying how people who can’t afford to care for their children properly should not have children and are scum if they do. I read rants about how it is morally wrong for people to expect the community to support children they bring into the world, how only scum do that. I lost my job shortly after my first child was born, and all those rants came slamming back to me and I felt like I was scum. I loved my child more than anyone or anything, but I felt like I had been wrong to have her, and I had never espoused those viewpoints. I had done my best to save and prepare a nice life for her, and it seemed like it was just not enough. I can’t imagine how much worse he must have felt than I did, because i can’t imagine doing that at all, but I can begin to understand the heartbreak and fear that started him on that path.

I think that’s a really important point.

Yeah! I actually looked up the lyrics to that song for the Bob Dylan lyrics thread in CS a couple of days ago. But I didn’t post them because it isn’t the lyrics that make this song powerful, but the dark storyline and haunting perfromance. It’s pretty shitty to see it played out in real life.

You know what’s wierd? Same day this killing went down, a woman in California gave birth to octuplets.

Has anyone investigated Bob Dylan in connection with this murder? He seems to have a suspicious amount of knowledge about it.

I think that the scary and sad mindset is that you’ve lost your job, you’ll lose your house and your car and everything else and the thought of someone else later taking your wife and raising your kids is a bit too much for them to handle. These would seem to me to be the actions and thoughts of someone who’s desperate to keep something for themselves, the one thing they value most.

Not that I sympathize, I think it’s terrible, but that’s probably where a lot of that is coming from.

Stir in the drinking,divorce,spouse abuse ,drug use and depression and the social ramifications of a miserable financial era we are in begins to show a true picture.
