What are some things that you think are awful (immoral/unethical/repugnant/just plain wrong/etc.) that you nonetheless firmly believe should be legal?
Street prostitution. I can’t stand whores of any sort myself but I don’t see anything wrong with people that want such a thing absent other crimes.
I don’t think it is awful, but I think polygamy should be legal. I don’t see what business the state has in determining how adults arrange their private lives.
Owner rights.
I believe if Billy Bo Bob doesn’t want to serve blacks or whoever in his mom & pop restaurant; then he should have that right. I would never go to such a place myself but I feel he should have that right.
The optimist in me wants to believe that Billy Bo Bob would soon go out of business too but alas…
-
Mandatory parenting classes, intelligence tests, and hereditary background tests for prospective parents (the last one is to check for possible terrible diseases). Failure to comply and pass=coat hanger.
-
Extreme judicial leniency for people that either shoot or poison a neighbors noisy dog, if they can produce three witnesses that can attest that the dog would not shut the fuck up.
-
To save taxpayer money, all violent criminals and sex offenders get sent to a Devils Island where they fend for themselves.
your 1 seems to be Eugenics.
your 2 seems to be animal cruelty.
your 3 seems to be capital punishment.
i’d hate to live in your idea of a government.
Prostitution yes, street prostitution no. Street whores are some of the saddest human beings you will ever meet. I’ve met hundreds, and I have stories that would make your head explode. Regulated brothels are MUCH better for the women involved, keeping them healthy and safe.
I would abolish all laws respecting drugs and gambling. As for drugs, in certain circumstances, the laws requiring prescriptions can have very negative effects. But the “war” on illegal drugs obviously causes more harm than the drugs (cf. prohibition).
In action, it is almost all drug arrests are of blacks. I know someone who used cocaine for years and while she worried constantly about the effects on her health, the last thing she worried about was the possibility of being arrested. Happily, she has been off for years.
Incidentally, I recently saw a letter to the editor of the local paper advocating a total ban on tobacco. I knew it would come to that. Yet it might be the only way to ban tobacco advertising.
Nazis, skinheads, KKKers, and religious nutrolls expressing their opinion at funerals, in Skokie, IL, or wherever they choose.
BMada, do you not know how to play this game? The thread’s called “Awful things that you believe should be legal”. Evidently you think they’re awful therefore it belongs here.
Whoring’s already been listed so I’ll do some others.
Make panhandling at intersections and offramps legal, but also make it legal to shoot said panhandlers with paintball guns out of your car. They may as well serve a purpose other than standing there asking for something for nothing.
Welfare recipients that have been on the dole for continuous 5 years (yes I have known people where welfare is their primary means of support and are happy that way) have a choice; sterilization, or continued benefits. If you’re not going to contribute to society, you don’t get to reproduce.
All drugs will be made legal, taxed and regulated.
Get rid of public government services for illegal aliens. They are not here legally and therefore criminals, why are we feeding clothing and providing free healthcare for them when I have to pay for such things out of my own pocket? And on that note;
Less healthcare for prison inmates. Prisons have the best healthcare in the world, due to inmates constantly suing for ‘harsh conditions’. I think prison should be you get the essentials; warmth, basic food, water and toiletries. You get competent doctors but nothing extravagant. Although…
I also want compulsory continuing education in prisons. Some kind of life skill in any discipline. It’s been said that prisons are just colleges for criminals to become better criminals, why not force them to make it like a real college?
I also like the movie GATTACA in theory, but in practice I don’t know if it’ll work or not. Our species isn’t ready for eugenics yet.
Polygamy is illegal because it’s rarely involving consenting adults. It’s historically been 50 year old guys setting up their 14 year old nieces with marriages to their other 50 year old friends. The Mormons excelled at that sort of thing (and still do, just not as public about it). Nowadays if there’s a 3-way marriage the persons involved just keep their trap shut.
Yeah, so lets throw them in jail.
Prostitution - regulated
Drugs - non-regulated. You can inject radiator fluid directly into your liver if you want to. Caveat: any actions done while under the influence of drugs are deemed to be done with your full knowledge and deliberation.
Euthanasia clinics - You go in and fill out a will, or indicate where your last will is. The clerk asks if you’re sure. If yes, they stick you in a room and you go out like Edward G. Robinson’s character in ‘Soylent Green’. Mobile clinics available for those who can’t make it in person. ‘Sanity’ not a factor in determining who can use the service.
Cite???
Eh, sorry. I don’t think prostitution is awful, so ignore it on my list.
I wish I had a cite. I saw a show about prison systems on Discovery channel awhile back, they were talking about how good prison health care is. If anyone who works in the prison system can refute (or corroborate) that then good. It’s only my humble opinion
**Uzi **I don’t think prostitution is awful either, but many people do.
Public execution- and I mean with public participation- of guilty-beyond-any-doubt sexual predators & other savagely violent criminals.
I don’t think they should be thrown in jail. I think sentencing laws should be changed so that they are placed into inpatient treatment instead of jail. Jail should only exist for those who abscond from treatment, and the reason they’d be sent to jail then is for violating a court order. Basically, I’d treat street whores like they’re in juvenile court.
I also would like to legalize drugs, but heavily tax and regulate them. Basically, treat drugs the same way brothel hookers are treated in Nevada.
While I disagree with this because I’m against the death penalty, I can see why people might want public executions. But public participation? Doesn’t that make us just as savage and violent as they are?
Legalize all drugs, without taxing them heavily. Tax cocaine as much as you would tax a loaf of bread.
Not in response to the OP: Lifetime in prison for anyone participating in public executions.
It should be perfectly legal to force people off the road and beat them with sticks (wood only) if they persist in driving 10 mph or more under the speed limit in the left lane after passing two speed limit signs and refusing to move to the right or speed up.
Would put a stop to that shit straight away.
Why shouldn’t prisoners have good healthcare? I don’t understand your logic.
