But, I don’t want her to ever become a “cover girl”. The braces may come off and that’s fine, but her fashion sense is her own, and I like that. Betty doesn’t need to be a Madison Avenue billboard, and in my opinion it would make her character hypocritical. She’s comfortable with her Guadalajara poncho and so am I. Betty likes who she is and the viewers should like that she likes herself too. IMHO.
They made the little brother gay instead.
You’re joking, right? It’s the first episode of a brand new series. It’s not supposed to fulfil all of its potential in the first episode. What would they do for the second?
Really? This got me all excited but I went and checked and didn’t see it on the schedule. I guess it could be a regional difference but I went to the ABC family website and didn’t see it listed there either.
I think you can still watch it at abc.com if you have a good internet connection.
Another thing I liked was when Betty and her boss were making their presentation to Fabia. (Why did I want to type “Labia”?) The presentation wasn’t miraculously developed and ready to go – it was just photos and an idea.
And when it looked like Betty was going to tell Fabia her clients were getting old, just like she was  – she said they were having children. That was neat.
I don’t know what to tell you. My TiVo picked it up on ABC Family at 6PM Central Friday evening, just as I’d planned. It looks like they only ran the pilot though, as no other episodes are scheduled on ABC Family in the next few weeks. Too bad – guess I’ll have to either watch it on ABC’s website or catch it when my other shows are in reruns.
It seems to be a one-time-only thing, since ABC Family’s re-broadcast opened with a title card advising parental discretion and stating that they were interrupting regular programming to bring you an encore presentation of ABC’s Ugly Betty.
I watched it on ABC.com yesterday. (Thanks for offering viewers the chance to see shows they missed, ABC.) It was darling. I’ll DVR the next one.
P.S. Was that Salma Hayek in the telenova?
When culebrones started being shown on Spanish TV, nobody watched Crystal. No no no no. The fact that everybody was saying chévere and other Venezuelan expressions was completely unrelated. Yes yes yes yes. Nobody watched culebrones at all, at all.
The audiences for Betty la Fea were so large that people didn’t bother deny they watched it… like Colibri mentioned for Panama, it was a great time to go to the supermarket! If you could find a cashier, that is; they were all in the super’s office, watching TV.
And fer Og’s sake, Betty la Fea was WAY before Devil wears Prada!
I wouldn’t be watching this show if it weren’t for America Ferrara. I think it might become one of my guilty pleasures. I have to say that I knew almost immediately that the Boss would eventually grow a conscience and stick up for Betty, and that the photographer was up to no good. Also, that the former editor was still alive. So, no points for being unpredictable.
I enjoyed the clips of the telenovela-within-the-telenovela with Salma Hayek. Hilariously exaggerated.
I swear I’m not generally a telenovela watcher, but over the years I’ve been roped into three – and they have all been very different, so I’m not sure what the quality that attracts me has been. I’ve already admitted to Betty la Fea (and I actually tried watching Ecomodo but didn’t click with it). I was a dedicated Carita de Angel fan - a kids’ soapie. And I liked Amigas y Rivales.
Can I ever show my face here again?
