Uh, exactly.
Rio was the front runner. South America never hosted one. The only reason Chicago got looked at again was because Obama went to bat for them. They were not supposed to have much of a chance.
But who cares? This is about a righty finding someway to squeal . Some people have no shame.
…and to sabotage government when they are in power! Gotta hand it to them… they’re pretty much 24/7 when it comes to fucking our country up. Gold star for consistency, you evil fuck-ups.
It’s about more than sports. It’s about rooting for your country to fail in big and small and various ways, just because you don’t like the guy who happens to occupy the White House.
Edit to add a quote from Jim Cornette regarding Limbaugh: “And what’s more Un-American then publicly hoping the President of the United States fails? That’s like hoping the pilot of your airplane fails because you don’t like his opinion on global warming. We’re all in this together you fucking morons. You hope he fails? If he fails we’re fucked! Jesus!”
So, if a citizen born in another country, roots for that country to beat the U.S. in a soccer match, there’s something wrong with that. Please.
But maybe I’m an America hater. When we were losing in basketball, two Olympics ago, I was rooting against the U.S. And I am a huge NBA fan. But those guys had a shitty attitude and I felt it was better for the sport if they lost. I was elated when they did. Though I can’t recall rooting against any other American participant.
What a dope that guy is. It’s fucking SPORTS. And that leaves aside that there are rational arguments why a city should not host the Olympics. Or do you think everyone in Chicago who was opposed to it was an Obama hater? If Obama is rooting for the Cubs or the White Sox, am I not allowed to root for another team? Or is that, too, “wanting Obama to fail”? This is some comical shit.
These were people who were specifically and explicitly rooting for Obama to fail, and cheering that the US did not get the Olympics. That’s remarkably childish, if nothing else.
Did you completely fail to read the words “just because you don’t like the guy who happens to occupy the White House” in Equipoise’s post, or are you just flinging shit to see what sticks?
You so totally don’t get it. It’s not about sports.
That quote is months old, and is not about the Olympics, it’s about Rush Limbaugh. As I said. The quote did seem to fit though.
Jesus Christ you’re an idiot. IT’S NOT ABOUT SPORTS. IT’S NOT ABOUT THE OLYMPICS. It’s about wanting President Obama to fail in everything he does. It’s about right-wingers reveling in both petty and huge setbacks/problems/dilemmas for Obama. It’s ridiculous.
The American right are not the only ones rejoicing at their leader losing the Olympic bid. I heard that once Juan Carlos was King and now he eats humble pie and drives a Zamboni.
Well, excuse me for assuming it was brought it because it had something to do with the thread title, Fuck Face. and the reason the quote about Limbaugh is in this thread is because people are using this Olympics nonsense to be indicative of the mindset pointed to in that article. Sorry, chum. One anyone who tries to create a stink over the Olympics—from either direction or political persuasion—is in an idiot. And trying to place criticism of Obama about the Olympics with any of the actual jobs he is tasked with as President qualifies.
Leader of the Free World
His quote wasn’t in reference to the Olympic fiasco – it was made prior, and was a general condemnation of people who have actively stated they wish for the president’s administration to fail. In other words, some would rather be right than improve the nation they claim to love so much.
The quote was then used to apply to this situation, because the celebration of our failure to secure the Olympics is being viewed one incident characteristic of a general tendency for a certain group of people to rub their hands with glee whenever something negative happens that they can blame on Obama. In other words, they seem to care more about denigrating Obama than the welfare of our country.
It would be like lefties celebrating whenever Bush alienated yet another country with his asinine foreign policy decisions, or if we posted gloating screeds as our economy tanked and more and more people found themselves out of work and forced into bankruptcy. ‘‘Ha, ha, unemployment is ridiculously high and getting worse every minute! Don’t you just love it? Yay, we’re violating human rights left and right, I just KNEW tons of innocent people would die!’’ I don’t know about anyone else here, but when these things happened,* even though I saw them coming from a mile away*, I wasn’t happy about it, I was fucking horrified.
No matter what my feelings about Bush, I NEVER celebrated his failures, I lamented them, precisely because when the president fails, U.S. citizens are harmed.
So if the OP is so fucking concerned about the direction of this country, why this insincere, gloating drivel? ‘‘Our country lost an economic opportunity–isn’t that fantastic?’’ No you goddamned moron, it’s a travesty. If anything your facetious attitude is indicative of the truth – you’re not scared of the direction Obama is taking this country at all, you’re just shooting the shit out of political boredom. Because this nonsense sadistic glee is fostering an environment of REAL VIOLENCE among the extremists, I find this position morally reprehensible.
This.
@ghardester: You might want to reflect on the fact that there’s a reason nobody lives in West Bumblefuck, Oregon. Wiping your ass with tree bark is pretty overrated.
And all this time, I was unaware that you could be such a stupid bitch. Go figure. But let me help you, dearie. I have not opined on those calling for Obama to FAIL on any and every substantive issue. I might shock you to know that I agree with your position on that. My comments have addressed the cartoon notion that being glad Obama failed on the Olympic bid is an issue critical to your country. I like the Olympics. Ideally, I’d like to have it here as often as makes sense. But those who find glee in it not coming here, are not doing the country any harm. It’s friggin SPORTS! Do you really think the country’s fate is going to turn on where a bunch of athletes compete to see who can dive with the smallest splash?
Reread your second paragraph above. That lays out the problem nicely. Rooting for Obama to fail on health care reform + stimulating the economy + Guantanamo + Afghanistan + the environment + Iraq + anything else he wants to do is both 1) dumb, 2) unhelpful, and 3) masochistic. The Olympics do not enter into that equation. It’s a bunch of sports competitions, which for me, is about the amazing athletes and the spirit of competition. Not Obama. So someone could rejoice in his failing to get the Olympics and laugh and chide with “neener-neener”. That has nothing to do with the direction of the country.
I do think Obama made a mistake here. That he shouldn’t have gone to the meeting unless he was certain he’d get it. He, unfortunately, diminished himself a little by doing that. But, personally, I give him a pass on it. The other leaders were there, so that helps. Also, how you handle a loss can say very much about a person. I do think that getting the Olympics is beneath the stature of any leader. God knows there are more important things to deal with. (See previous paragraph.)
Check the thread title. People coming in here trying to conflate glee with Obama not getting the Olympics with those who want him to fail on every, or even most, substantive fronts, are friggin idiots.
Just to get a sense of your sense of scale here, did Bush also diminish himself by failing to find WMD’s in Iraq? Did he make things a little better by subsequently failing to find them under a chair? Could Obama make things a little better by failing to find the 2016 Olympics under a chair, in Chicago?
I’m just getting the impression of people getting incredibly nitpicky and prim who have a history of not giving a shit whether the president pulls the fucking sky down on top of himself. Is that accurate?
If by “accurate” you mean some of the stupidest shit even you have ever typed, well then, yes. Yes it is fully “accurate”.
And if you assume me to be a Bush fan, you are mistaken. Never even voted for the man.
Okay, that basically proves that Bush stole the 2000 and 2004 elections. How else could so much apathy for him have translated into such an overwhelming man-date with the American people?
House Minority leader John Boehner has actually never met a man who voted for Bush, or something like that
I think maybe Hypno-toad had us all in his thrall these past eight years.
That’s probably why even the craziest shit used to be AOK, but now any deviation from full dress uniform behavior is terrible and much to be frowned upon by all serious people who actually care about their country.
But, how did he come to be living in Canada after working all these minimum-wage type jobs?
Liar. You are one of the worst right-wing shills on the board right now, possibly ever. Hell, I rarely agree with Bricker, but at least he mostly has sound, well-reasoned arguments, with facts supporting them. You just fling shit blindly at all Democrats.
