If this is a short term thing, it might be kinda cool. Long term, I suspect that Axl would end up with Angus’s guitar shoved in a very unpleasant place.
i put this at, like, 0% chance of happening. My understanding is that AC/DC is a well-oiled, Young Family business. They moved past Bon Scott (an essential member, to me, but what do I know), a few drummers and bassists, replacing Malcolm with Stevie, the great Phil Rudd Hired a Hitman snafu.
I don’t see them having ANY tolerance for Axl’s Axl-ness.
HA! I’ve always considered that Krokus was the most successful AC/DC cover band. Used to be, if I heard an AC/DC song that I’d never heard before, I knew it was Krokus.
I mean Long Stick Goes Boom? Are you absolutely sure that’s not an unreleased AC/DC song?
Is Axl still “Axl” though? I wonder if the passage of time has taught this man any humility. He was pretty young when he was going through his drama queen days. Perhaps he’s matured?
I had no idea that AC/DC was imploding. Sad. Much as I like AC/DC (especially Johnson era) and liked GnR back when they were still GnR and not Axl and whoever he’s playing with this week, I have no interest in this sort of pairing.
For one thing, AC/DC has always ROCKED, I mean FUCKING ROCKED, live. Axl live is… words fail to describe how bad Axl is live.
So Axl Rose, a performer infamous for his sloppy work habits and vocal issues (although both have been a lot better recently) is going to juggle two different tours without a hitch. Despite having recently broken his foot. I’m with the above poster in that there’s zero chance of this tour finishing. Angus, do you need the money this bad? The only decent thing to do is cancel the tour, replace with a single “tribute to AC/DC” night with all-star guests vocalists, and call it a day.
I have nothing against Axl or AC/DC. I’ve bought some their MP3s. My son seems to be well on the way to being a heavy metal expert though and he’s echoing a lot of whats been said above.
I tried to say that there are synergies between groups of artists that can change as new people create together… that this could create new music which is good.
I put forth the idea that there’s a lot more to a band than just playing the same sets over and over six days a week for two straight years until their brains shriek in agony.
( I didn’t say that I don’t think any artist is at their best if they are thinking to themselves before they go on, “If I have to play that song just One More Fucking Time, I Swear I’m going to tackle the promoter back stage after the show and kick him in the balls in 3/4 time for a private 3:05 ‘encore’…”
Then again, no musician has Ever thought that.)
His response was: “No, Dad. Axl? AC/DC? Just… No…”
This is the walking, talking definition of a bad idea.
Axl Rose has been a disaster looking for a place to happen for years now. Put him near an audience and fuckery ensues (although, to be fair, it doesn’t look like there was any Axl-inspired rioting at Coachella). I’d rather AC/DC just hung it up and went home, honestly. They beat the odds once by continuing on after losing Bon; they won’t do it again.
Still, it’s only for one tour. Maybe that will be enough.
