b/w movie (Miracle on 34th St.) colorization observation

This is one of my personal favorites to watch during the Christmas holiday, and AMC was playing it on Christmas Eve. They showed the colorized version, which I didn’t mind - although it really does seem strange to see it in color after having viewed it so many years in black and white.

What I did notice, though, that nit-picked the heck out of me was that they don’t seem to do any colorization around the mouth area! Anyone else notice that? Why is that?! It was driving me crazy to see grey teeth!! And it’s especially grating because the colorization is so detailed … except for the mouths of the actors!

I did get to see the original black and white version and think I still like that one the best. I don’t really understand why b/w films and older tv shows are so shunned - I’m still wondering why TVLand only shows the Gunsmoke episodes from 1966 and beyond, thinking that maybe it’s because the earlier shows were b/w.

Thank you for mentioning this. I remember watching this film as a kid growing up, glued to the television…I happened to tune in for the last 20 minutes on AMC the other day and thought to myself, “I could have sworn this film was in B&W…” Nice to know I am not (totally) crazy and losing my mind.

I didn’t really notice the “around the mouth” factor, but the colors seemed sort of washed-out.
